Hello everyone,

I am considering getting a new wardrobe for my bedroom from the IKEA PAX system. What particularly interests me is the integration of a pull-down wardrobe lift – a device that allows clothes to be hung up high in the wardrobe to save space and then easily pulled down when needed.

My question to you is: Does IKEA offer PAX wardrobes that come with a built-in pull-down wardrobe lift? Or does this need to be purchased separately or retrofitted?

I would appreciate any experiences, tips, or specific advice on how you have handled the wardrobe lift in combination with PAX. Thanks!

Hello Isamnar,

Regarding your question: As far as I know, IKEA does not officially offer PAX wardrobes with factory-installed pull-down closet rods. This means that the standard PAX systems usually include rods, shelves, or drawers, but no integrated lift mechanism.

However, you can definitely install pull-down closet rods in a PAX wardrobe. These are usually sold separately and need to be fitted to the internal height of the wardrobe. Technically, these lifts are mostly mechanical pulls attached to the closet rod that can be pulled down by a handle.

Important points:
- You need to choose the height of the PAX wardrobe so that there is enough space at the top for the lift (often at least 150–170cm (59–67 inches) from the floor)
- The lift should fit the internal dimensions of the wardrobe exactly – some suppliers make custom sizes
- Installation requires some DIY skills and appropriate screws

Important: Also check whether IKEA itself offers accessories, for example under "wardrobe accessories" – there are pull-down closet rods from third-party brands compatible with PAX. If you like, please let me know the planned size of your PAX wardrobe (height, width), and I might be able to tell you more precisely which models could fit.

Best regards!

To add to bapar’s comment: IKEA occasionally sells so-called “trouser lifts” or “clothes lifts” as accessories, but these are mostly designed for smaller hanging systems and are not permanently integrated into PAX.

If you mean a full clothes lift, like a pull-down, high-mounted hanger rod, you will usually need to turn to third-party suppliers. They offer various models that can be installed into your existing PAX system.

My advice is to carefully measure the interior dimensions of your wardrobe before purchasing, then look for a lift specifically designed for those measurements. Also, pay attention to the load capacity, especially if you plan to hang heavy coats or many items.

As far as I know, there is no “plug-and-play” solution from IKEA, but with some planning, it can be adapted very well.

Short answer: No, IKEA does not offer PAX wardrobes with built-in pull-down closet rods.

However, you can install pull-down closet rods from third-party suppliers or purchase them separately and fit them yourself into the PAX wardrobe.

I want to revisit this since you asked for a specific solution. About a year ago, I installed a pull-down wardrobe lift in a PAX wardrobe myself. Here is what I kept in mind:

- The lift mechanism (usually metal with a spring system) was ordered separately, not from IKEA
- The installation dimensions must be exact down to the millimeter, otherwise the lift can jam or not work properly
- Important: Assembly requires at least two people because the lift is quite heavy and difficult to handle
- Before purchasing, the exact interior measurements of the PAX wardrobe should be checked and shared with the lift manufacturer; many offer custom-made solutions
- During installation, be sure to adhere to the maximum load capacity (usually 10–15 kg (22–33 lbs)) to avoid damage

If you want, I can provide you with the contact details of my supplier and also send pictures of the installed lift.

That sums it up very well — no “ready-made” solution from IKEA, but it is doable with an upgrade.
