Hello everyone, I’m considering buying a new PAX wardrobe from Ikea, and I’m particularly interested in whether there are versions of the PAX doors that are known for being especially durable. It’s important to me that the doors are long-lasting, resistant to minor scratches or damage, and can withstand heavy use. Are there specific models or material combinations of the PAX doors that Ikea promotes as more resilient or that other users have described as very robust in practice? I would greatly appreciate any experiences, tips, or official information from Ikea.
In my opinion, the doors with aluminum frames are actually the most durable option for Pax. These frames provide greater stability and are less prone to warping than solid wood or MDF doors. The hinges are the same ones used on other Pax doors but have proven to be long-lasting when paired with aluminum frames. They are definitely recommended for heavy use.

How about the closing mechanisms and hinges on these doors? Do you have any experience whether they last longer or tend to become loose more easily? The hinges on PAX doors are generally durable, whether they have aluminum or wooden frames. It is important to adjust them carefully during installation. I have different versions, and the doors with aluminum frames tend to stay aligned better and appear more stable, which reduces stress on the hinges.
I am well familiar with the issue of wobbly doors. For me, patient adjustment and the installation of dampers that Ikea offers for PAX helped. If you opt for the more robust aluminum frame version, keep in mind that they are somewhat heavier, which can put more strain on the hinges – regular maintenance of this mechanism is very helpful.
I would like to add that the surface treatment of PAX doors makes a big difference. Painted doors are more prone to scratches than veneered versions. Aluminum frames often use glass or mirrored panels, which are durable but can get scratched if cleaned improperly. As with everything, gentle care and avoiding harsh cleaning agents is recommended.
