Hello everyone, I’m considering buying a new PAX wardrobe from Ikea, and I’m particularly interested in whether there are versions of the PAX doors that are known for being especially durable. It’s important to me that the doors are long-lasting, resistant to minor scratches or damage, and can withstand heavy use. Are there specific models or material combinations of the PAX doors that Ikea promotes as more resilient or that other users have described as very robust in practice? I would greatly appreciate any experiences, tips, or official information from Ikea.

Hello, yes, with the PAX doors, the full mirror doors and those made of veneered wood are known to be more durable. However, the most resilient are doors with glass or aluminum frames. Plastic fronts tend to scratch more easily.

Hello ankoje, I have a PAX wardrobe myself with solid wood frame fronts, which are much more stable than the thin MDF doors with laminate. Ikea does not offer a specific warranty for durability on the doors, but experience reports often mention that wood surfaces and mirror doors last best with regular maintenance. It is also important not to overload the doors, as hinges can get damaged more quickly otherwise.

For maximum durability, I recommend the PAX doors with metal frames. They are sturdy, easy to clean, and can withstand greater wear and tear. The standard wooden doors are more prone to scratches.

I can definitely understand that you’re looking for doors that stay looking good for a long time and don’t get damaged easily. I once slightly damaged the surface of a door myself and was really disappointed. A friend has the PAX doors with glass fronts and says they are sensitive to fingerprints but overall very durable. Maybe that could be a compromise for you?

Thanks for the tip about aluminum frames! Would that be the option that Ikea refers to as "metal frame," as zarHenning mentioned? How about the locking mechanism and hinges on these doors? Do you have any experience on whether they last longer or tend to become loose more easily?
