Hello everyone,

I am currently focusing on optimizing wardrobe organization and have come across the Ikea PAX system. My specific question is: Are there any proven PAX solutions or configurations that work particularly well for creating a clear and functional wardrobe, especially when you want to neatly store different types of clothing (pants, shirts, jackets, accessories)?

I am especially interested in recommendations for effective combinations of drawers, shelves, clothes rails, and possibly storage boxes that can be implemented within the PAX system and have proven useful in everyday use.

Does anyone here have practical experience with PAX and could share some examples or tips on what to consider during planning? Any advice on common pitfalls or areas for improvement with PAX would also be very helpful.

Thanks in advance for your input!

PAX from Ikea is almost an industry standard for modular wardrobe systems and offers numerous options to improve organization inside the closet through its flexible layout possibilities.

It is advisable to first measure the available wardrobe width and height precisely to create a custom-fit plan. For the interior fittings, the following combinations are recommended:

- Combination of hanging rods for long and short garments
- Drawers with soft-close function for underwear and accessories
- Shelves for folded clothes
- Built-in drawers with divided compartments for organized storage of small items like watches or belts

Another advantage of the system is the accessory-based organization solutions such as plinths, shoe racks, or special boxes, which can be easily integrated into the PAX frame.

A common planning mistake is not allowing enough hanging space, which quickly leads to overcrowding. It is worthwhile to include generous hanging rods, especially for jackets and shirts.

I recommend using the Ikea PAX planner online before ordering to virtually test the wardrobe and assess its practical use in advance.

Hello Bidagla,

Your question about the optimal wardrobe organization using the PAX system is very well posed, as the versatility of PAX can indeed be tricky. I would like to go into some detail and explain the planning steps that I find helpful:

- Needs analysis: Think carefully about which types of clothing you mainly want to store. Do you mostly use hanging clothes (pants, shirts, coats) or more folded clothes (sweaters, t-shirts)?
- Staggered planning of hanging space: PAX offers different frame heights. I recommend at least two levels, each with a hanging rod—use the lower level for pants and shirts and the upper for longer jackets or shirts.
- Combination with drawer units: These are ideal for storing underwear as well as larger accessories or socks. The drawers come in various heights, which is very practical.
- Flexible shelves: Very important because this allows you to customize individual sections as needed.

What you should definitely keep in mind:
- The built-in depth of PAX is either 35 cm (14 inches) or 58 cm (23 inches); for hanging clothes, definitely choose the deeper option.
- Use internal inserts, such as tie holders or trouser hangers, to make better use of the depth.
- Properly selected accessories like boxes, baskets, and dividers ensure ventilation and improve organization and can be combined well with PAX.

Maybe you could also share the size of your closet space and what you prioritize for everyday access? That way, the planning could be better tailored to your needs.

That’s a very good point, which is often overlooked! Without precise information about the room size and individual needs, finding the perfect PAX solution is difficult.

I’d also like to add that the assembly of the PAX systems is very well designed and straightforward. However, if you are new to furniture assembly, it’s worth setting aside a whole day for the build and checking all components in the boxes beforehand.

The lighting aspect is also interesting: many users have had positive experiences with LED strips or small spotlights inside the wardrobe to improve visibility in the often deep cabinets.

Furthermore, the system’s sliding doors offer clear advantages in small rooms since they do not require additional swing space.

In general, from my own experience, PAX is very easy to modify—especially afterwards, if you find you want to reorganize something.

Bidagla, do you already have an approximate plan or sketch with your measurements?

Focusing on the combination of modules is definitely essential. From a professional perspective, I find the following standard configuration very practical for a wardrobe with versatile clothing needs:

- At the top, a wide clothes rail for long-hanging outerwear
- Below that, positioned halfway down, a second rail for shirts and pants hangers
- Drawer units in the middle (for example, three drawers each 20 cm (8 inches) high) for underwear and accessories
- Fixed shelves at the bottom for shoes or folded clothing

Additionally, I recommend choosing at least one drawer unit with dividers, as these are great for smaller items.

Tip: Use the storage boxes from Ikea inside the drawers to keep everything neatly separated.

The PAX organizer set is also highly recommended for storing small accessories like ties, belts, or jewelry in an organized manner.

This way, everything stays within reach and the overview is maintained.
