Hello everyone, I am currently planning to design my walk-in closet to be as flexible and customized as possible, and I have been considering the IKEA PAX system. My question is: Are there IKEA PAX options that work well for walk-in closets, both in terms of how the modules can be combined and the interior fittings? I want to make the most of the space, ideally with plenty of storage for clothing, shoes, and accessories. I am particularly interested in how PAX systems can be implemented in a larger room as a walk-in closet—not just as individual wardrobe units but as an overall concept. Are there any limitations to be aware of, such as stability, modular expandability, or design? I would appreciate any experiences and tips!

Are there any special considerations for ceiling mounting, or what should I keep in mind regarding room height? Stability is important to me because I don’t want the wardrobes to shift or fall over.Yes, stability is crucial, especially for walk-in closets with multiple PAX units. Although the PAX frame is secured to the wall, in a walk-in closet you usually have two rows of wardrobes facing each other.
If possible, fix each wardrobe to the walls using anchors and screws suitable for your wall type – this will provide significantly better stability.
IKEA does not officially offer direct ceiling mounting solutions, but some users recommend securing the wardrobes at the top with additional brackets or wooden strips screwed into the ceiling to prevent tipping – especially in rooms with high ceilings. Be sure to check the structural condition of your ceiling before doing this.
If ceiling mounting is not an option, you can reinforce floor and wall fixings and use connecting elements between the PAX units to stiffen the whole structure.
Another tip: after installation, regularly check all connections and, if needed, use corner braces to ensure everything stays firmly in place.
Yay Kojoonas! That sounds like an amazing project! I think PAX is perfect for your plans. Especially the ability to adjust and expand it gradually makes a walk-in closet simply unbeatable.
I couldn’t agree more – the investment is definitely worth it, even if assembly requires some patience! Good luck with planning and implementation! You’ve got this!
