Hello everyone,
I am planning to get a new wardrobe from the Ikea PAX system and am especially interested in the drawers. My question is whether there are PAX models or drawer fronts from Ikea that come with a soft-close mechanism built in, or if this needs to be purchased and installed separately.
I am mainly curious about which options are directly offered by Ikea—specifically, if there is a model with integrated soft-closing damping and how well it works. If anyone has experience with different types of drawers in the PAX system or tips on compatible soft-close solutions, I would really appreciate it.
Thanks in advance for your replies!

Yes, there are actually PAX drawers from Ikea that come standard with soft-close technology! It’s really convenient, especially if you appreciate delicate furniture or have children at home.
I’ve been using the complete PAX drawers with soft-close (the "Maximera" model for the drawers) for over a year now, and I’m very happy! They close absolutely quietly and smoothly—no more slamming!
If you want to be sure, just look for the "soft-close" label at Ikea or try them out in-store. Otherwise, you can buy regular drawers and retrofit the dampers yourself, but that takes more effort. Good luck!

This system ensures the drawers close gently and automatically thanks to damping built into the sliding mechanism.
It is important to specifically look for the term "soft-close" when purchasing these drawers, as there are other PAX drawers without this feature. Retrofitting a soft-close mechanism is possible, but Ikea offers this technology directly in the mentioned models.
Additionally, I recommend making sure the drawers are properly installed and maintained to guarantee the optimal performance of the soft-close damping.

The soft-close system in Ikea MAXIMERA drawers works with special damping elements in the drawer slides. These are designed to start slowing down the drawer about 10-15 cm (4-6 inches) before it fully closes, allowing it to close smoothly and quietly.
This damping technology is integrated, so when you buy MAXIMERA drawers, you get a reliable soft-close effect right from the start.
If you already have standard PAX drawers, Ikea does not offer an official retrofit kit for soft-close. However, there are third-party accessories available that provide special soft-close adapters. These are not officially tested by Ikea and may affect functionality if they are not installed precisely.
Therefore, I would recommend choosing MAXIMERA drawers with built-in soft-close technology when buying new to ensure both comfort and durability.
Hopefully, this helps with your decision. What size or depth are you planning for your drawers? Sometimes it is also worth considering the fronts, as they are compatible with different mechanisms.

I would therefore recommend choosing the MAXIMERA drawers with soft-close technology when buying newThat is exactly my advice.
Soft-close drawers are only available as standard with the MAXIMERA series in Ikea’s PAX system. The regular drawers do not have this feature.
While retrofitting is possible, it is usually not very neat and involves some effort.
So, when purchasing, make sure to choose MAXIMERA.
