Hello everyone, I am currently planning to assemble the IKEA Platsa wardrobe and want to do it as ergonomically as possible. Since assembly can often be time-consuming and physically demanding, I am wondering if there are any proven ergonomic tips or methods to make the process easier, especially regarding posture and working height. Perhaps someone here has experience with this – I am also interested in how to avoid back pain when screwing parts together for hours or lifting heavy modules. Are there any specific recommendations for ergonomic assembly of the PLATSA that are practical to implement?

Make sure to distribute loads evenly—for example, always lift heavy cabinet modules with two people to avoid overstrain. Also, use tools with non-slip handles and regularly change your grip to prevent muscle tension. Incorporate breaks of at least five minutes every 45 minutes of work.
Here is a slightly easier tip: Turn the whole thing into a small mini-project with music or a podcast playing in the background, and treat yourself to stretching breaks in between. A little fun during the construction keeps motivation high, and your posture will naturally improve if you straighten up and move around now and then.
I would like to point out an important aspect: Preparation is crucial for assembling the PLATSA system. Sort all parts according to the assembly steps and keep all screws and fasteners ready before starting the assembly. This way, you avoid unnecessary movements in uncomfortable positions. It is also ergonomically advisable to work on a soft but firm surface that protects your knees and joints, as assembly often requires working in a bent-over posture.

When assembling, make sure to keep your legs and back straight. I think that is very important. Often, there isn’t enough space to set everything up perfectly, but I notice that being mindful of your posture really makes a difference.

When putting together individual modules, place them as close to you as possible so you don’t have to lift them too far away. That sounds like a very good tip, especially considering the leverage involved.
Thank you all for your advice so far – could anyone add something about the ideal position of the workspace? For example, is it better to work sitting or standing when assembling the PLATSA?
