Hello everyone,
I recently purchased some furniture from IKEA’s Hemnes series and would like to clean it in the most environmentally friendly way possible. My specific question is: Are there cleaning products that are both suitable for the surfaces of Hemnes wood—meaning they do not cause damage or discoloration—and environmentally friendly, ideally biodegradable and free of harmful substances?
I have already searched online for ecological cleaning products but am unsure whether these products are actually safe for painted or waxed wooden furniture like Hemnes, or if they might damage the surfaces.
Does anyone have experience with eco-friendly cleaning products specifically for IKEA Hemnes furniture? Are there any recommendations for cleaning agents or home remedies that clean effectively while being gentle and considering the ecological aspect?
I look forward to your tips!

I think it’s great that you are so focused on environmentally friendly cleaning.
Sometimes it can be difficult to find the right product while also feeling confident that you won’t cause any damage.
Maybe you have already noticed that some of the bio-certified cleaners are also listed as safe for delicate surfaces? This is especially important for Hemnes furniture.
I have Hemnes furniture myself and always try to start with very simple methods – fewer risks and you stay satisfied with the result for longer.

For Hemnes, I recommend a mild soap solution and a soft cloth; do not leave it wet. For stains, gently dab with a damp sponge. Do not use abrasive cleaners or vinegar.
Environmentally friendly does not always mean sufficient for tough stains. It is better to clean gently more often.

Just a small addition: I have had good experiences with cleaning products marketed as "eco-friendly furniture care" or "natural care" that contain waxes from beeswax or carnauba wax. These protect the surface additionally and provide a slight shine without harsh chemicals.
These products are usually biodegradable and solvent-free. Always test briefly on an inconspicuous spot before use to avoid discoloration.
Regular ventilation and avoiding excessive moisture during cleaning are also important.
