Hello everyone,

I am currently looking into drawer slides for the Ikea PAX system and have come across a question that I would like to ask clearly here: Are there actually differences between the drawer slides Ikea offers for the PAX system?

I am not only referring to visual differences but also technical aspects such as load capacity, smoothness of operation, installation details, and possibly different types of extension (e.g., full extension or partial extension).

I am particularly interested in whether you need to choose specifically based on requirements like stability or ease of installation, or if Ikea offers more of a uniform product line.

Can you help me with your experience or detailed knowledge of the product range? Thanks!

The load capacity should be sufficient for standard PAX drawer slides used for clothing.

I agree with this but would like to add that the load capacity also strongly depends on the mounting method and the quality of the rail. An improper screw connection or incorrect angle during installation can quickly reduce the maximum allowable load.

A tip for installing 50 x 40 cm (20 x 16 inches) drawers:

- Always use the original mounting points provided by Ikea,
- check the parallel alignment of the rails carefully,
- ensure there are enough screws for stabilization.

If you plan to fill the drawers with heavier items or bulky textiles (e.g., thick sweaters, bags), a soft-close full-extension slide with a higher load capacity might be more suitable.

Are there any uncertainties about the exact installation conditions? The more precise you do your homework, the better the result.
