tufra39Hello everyone, I am currently considering purchasing an Ikea Brimnes wardrobe, but I have some concerns about the quality and potential weak points that are sometimes mentioned in forums or reviews. My question for the community is: Are there any common recurring issues with the Ikea Brimnes wardrobes, especially regarding material quality, stability, workmanship, or the functionality of the doors and drawers? I would greatly appreciate concrete experiences, tips to avoid problems, and advice on typical areas prone to faults, so I can make an informed buying decision. Thank you in advance!
The Brimnes cabinets from Ikea are generally affordable, which is reflected in some of the materials used. Common weak points are primarily the hinges on the doors, which may need readjustment or replacement over time. The back panels are made of thin particleboard, which can warp if exposed to moisture or improper installation. Occasionally, there can be issues with the drawer slides, especially if they are overloaded. It is important to always assemble the cabinet according to the instructions and avoid overloading it to ensure stability.
I would like to systematically outline some of the most common issues with Ikea Brimnes wardrobes:
- Hinges: Often, the doors shift slightly because the screws are not tightened enough. My tip: After assembly, tighten all screws and, if necessary, secure them with small washers.
- Back panel: This is usually made of thin material and can warp in high humidity. It helps to place the wardrobe in a dry, well-ventilated area.
- Drawer slides: Problems mainly occur when drawers are overloaded or incorrectly mounted. During assembly, pay close attention to the proper alignment of the runners.
In summary: The product is designed for a low price point and can work well with proper care. Most issues arise from incorrect assembly or improper use.

The main components are made of particleboard with plastic-coated surfaces, which keeps costs low but increases susceptibility to moisture and mechanical stress.
- Hinges: These are simple metal hinges without soft-closing features, which can loosen over time with frequent use. Some mounting screws are fixed in less solid areas of the panels, which can lead to premature stripping.
- Back panel: Often just a thin hardboard sheet that provides stability, but can warp under tension or high humidity. This can cause the wardrobe to become uneven.
- Drawer slides: Roller or metal rail systems with limited load capacity. Excessive weight can cause detachment or wear.
My recommendation: Before assembly, check that all parts are complete and undamaged, and repeatedly inspect and tighten screws during construction. Additionally, the wardrobe should be placed on a level surface to prevent deformation.
What room and usage conditions have you planned for the wardrobe?

The wardrobe will be placed in a bedroom that isn’t very humid, although it can get a bit cooler and drier in winter. I mainly want to store clothing, and occasionally bedding. The load will be rather moderate, but of course I’ll make sure not to overfill it. I am particularly sensitive when it comes to stability, as a drawer on another Ikea piece once came off its track. If anyone can share insights on the long-term quality with normal use, that would be great.
