Hello everyone,
I am currently considering getting furniture from the Ikea Hemnes series. It is especially important to me that the color options are easy to maintain. I have small children and very little time for extensive cleaning.
So my main question is: Are there any Ikea Hemnes color options that, due to their surface texture or color tone, are particularly suitable for households where quick and easy care is essential?
I have heard about the white option but fear it might show dirt easily. Are there any experiences or recommendations?
Thanks in advance for your opinions and advice!

Very good question.
Hemnes furniture is made of solid wood, which has the basic advantage that surface damage can be repaired by sanding and refinishing (oil, varnish).
- With white painted surfaces, you need to be careful because the paint layer is quite thin. Deeper scratches may remain visible if not professionally repainted.
- For stained or oiled Hemnes versions, repairs are easier and usually look better.
For durable maintenance, I recommend for minor damages: light sanding with fine-grit sandpaper, cleaning, and then applying special wood oil or varnish.
If you have the budget, it is also possible to have the furniture surfaces professionally refinished. However, this requires time and possibly technical support.

Good morning everyone,
I would like to sincerely thank you all for the detailed and helpful responses.
In summary, I have taken away the following points:
- The darker Hemnes color options, such as black-brown or dark brown, are easier to maintain in daily use because they better hide dirt and stains.
- White surfaces look very nice but are more vulnerable to stains and show signs of wear more quickly.
- Solid wood has the advantage that furniture can be sanded and refinished if necessary, which is somewhat more difficult with painted white Hemnes furniture.
Therefore, I will probably choose a darker option and, at the same time, explore which protective measures (such as coasters and gentle cleaning) work best.
Once again, thank you all for your time and support!
