Hello everyone,
I am interested in how to cleverly and effectively customize Ikea Hemnes furniture without having to buy expensive designer pieces. My question is: Are there any smart DIY ideas or practical tips to easily enhance the HEMNES series, especially regarding appearance and functionality? I am thinking of things like creative paint finishes, handleless innovations, built-in solutions, upcycling, or material combinations—in other words, DIY tips that are sustainable and stylish but still achievable without a huge effort. Does anyone have relevant experience they could share? I would really appreciate concrete suggestions and also advice on what might be better to avoid.
Thanks in advance!

Hi, regarding clever ideas: One of my favorites is to refresh old Hemnes drawers by decorating them with colorful wallpaper – simply remove the back panels and cover them with self-adhesive wallpaper or fabric. It looks great and adds depth without needing any special tools.

You can also attach magnets to the inside of the doors to hold handy hooks or small organizers – this creates extra storage for small items without drilling.

These are small but effective changes that start almost unnoticed but bring great benefits and a stylish touch. Enjoy your DIY project!

I also recommend: Instead of standard handles, you can install industrial-style metal handles. This significantly changes the look toward an urban/loft style. Additionally, you can attach casters under the cabinets if flexibility in the room is needed. Small modifications, big impact.
