Kinlis3Are there any specific systems or products designed for effective cable management specifically for the IKEA Platsa cabinet system?
I plan to organize the wiring for my electronics and lighting inside the Platsa as neatly and clearly as possible, but I haven’t come across any solutions offered by IKEA itself or tailored exactly to Platsa.
The challenge is that the Platsa system, with its modular structure and flexible interior layout, requires quite customized cable routing. Perhaps there are third-party suppliers offering suitable brackets, clips, channels, or similar innovative solutions that can be discreetly mounted, for example, on the inner surfaces or cabinet sides?
I’m also interested in experiences or tips for clever DIY solutions or combinations that have proven effective in avoiding cable clutter and making cable maintenance (e.g., device replacement) straightforward.
I look forward to concrete suggestions, recommendations, or pointers to products that are well compatible with the Platsa system.

Great that you brought this up!
I’m using a Platsa shelving unit with LED lighting myself and attach small cable clips with adhesive backing from third-party suppliers, which can be stuck to the interior walls. This keeps everything neat and prevents any cables from dangling! It’s truly a game changer!
The challenge is that IKEA doesn’t offer official cable management solutions for this, but these universal clips work surprisingly well. Just run the cables along the panels, stick the clips on, and you’re done :-)
If you want, I can share some tips on which clips hold especially well and are affordable alternatives!

The topic of cable management with IKEA Platsa is interesting because the system is highly customizable but does not offer built-in solutions for cables.
From my experience, products like self-adhesive cable channels or clips, such as those from manufacturers like 3M or similar suppliers, work very well. It is important to pay attention to the adhesive surface so that it adapts properly to the panel material.
Additionally, cable ties and, if needed, custom-made mounting rails made from thin aluminum profiles or plastic strips can be used. These can be easily installed along the depth of the cabinet.
DIY solutions using 3D printing are also popular within the community to create holders precisely tailored to the dimensions of the Platsa panels.
I recommend designing cable routing in a way that allows cables to be pulled out at any time without having to dismantle the entire construction.

Regarding the question about cable management systems for IKEA Platsa: Currently, there are no official IKEA products specifically designed for cable routing within Platsa.
However, third-party suppliers offer universal solutions such as flexible cable ducts, clip mounts, and hook-and-loop tape systems that can be easily adapted to the interiors of Platsa units.
The following points should be considered during planning:
- Material compatibility with the panels (adhesives or fasteners should not cause permanent damage to the surface)
- Modularity for future expansion or retrofitting
- Size and number of cables to avoid overloading
- Accessibility for maintenance and replacement
A combination of self-adhesive clips for smaller cables and flexible conduits for larger bundles is practical.
A final recommendation is to carefully plan the entire cable layout before installation to minimize later modifications.

I’ve also used flexible spiral tubing for my power and data cables – it looks really neat and protects the cables. And if you want to change something later, you can simply cut open the spiral and then close it again.
Of course, IKEA doesn’t set any requirements here, but the modular Platsa units also make it easy to install custom solutions. Just keep at it, everyone finds something that fits! Keep it up!
So far, I have tried the following with my Platsa unit featuring LED lighting and a few outlets:
- Self-adhesive cable clips attached to the back panel of the cabinet
- Cable ties to bundle cables together
- Velcro straps to secure small cable groups
This provides good organization and can be changed easily with minimal effort. Especially with Platsa, it is important to work close to the cables since you want to avoid making too many drill holes or attachment points.
What I always recommend is to plan for a bit of extra cable length from the start in case you add or rearrange devices later. This way, you can avoid cable clutter without having to redo the setup.
