Hello everyone, I am considering buying an Ikea Platsa shelving system and specifically planning to integrate the drawer modules. Since I have heard from several people that installing these drawers is not entirely straightforward, I would like to know: Are there detailed assembly tips that address common pitfalls, the correct positioning of the drawer slides, or fitting the drawers into the frame structure? I want to avoid assembling the system incorrectly or wasting unnecessary time on trial and error. Perhaps someone has experience with the nuances of installing these drawers or knows tricks to make the process easier and achieve a neat result?

It is important to align the drawer slides precisely; otherwise, the drawer may stick. It is best to tighten the screws only loosely at first, then adjust everything before fully tightening. Always pay attention to the part numbering, as IKEA usually has this well organized.

I can understand that assembling PLATSA drawers can be a bit tricky at first, as the runners need to be positioned very precisely. Here are a few tips that might help you:
- First, fully assemble the frame and check if it is perfectly level. Any unevenness should be corrected at this stage.
- When attaching the runners, initially just place the parts without fixing them firmly, and check if they align flush before securing them permanently.
- Use a spirit level or a ruler to ensure that no runner is installed at an angle.
- The drawers usually come together well following the assembly instructions if you stick to the order.
- Important: Before final tightening, it is worth temporarily fitting all parts together to get a sense of the fit accuracy.
If you encounter any problems during assembly, feel free to ask questions—that’s completely normal with these systems.

I actually find it a bit exaggerated that so much importance is placed on exact assembly for a piece of furniture like PLATSA. Of course, it’s IKEA, so there are usually clear instructions, but let’s be honest: if you buy systems like this, you’re at least somewhat handy and know that some adjustment is part of the process.

I agree with that, but I still wonder if better assembly methods or alternative solutions have long since been developed that don’t rely on millimeter-precise screwing. Why not just build drawers with a certain amount of play? The system is so focused on precision that a small slip-up turns everything into a test of patience. To me, this suggests that IKEA prioritizes design over user convenience here.

For me, this is a sign that IKEA focuses more on design than on user comfort.

That’s an interesting point. I have to admit, I haven’t heard much about the technical aspects, but rather about issues with the fit and the spring mechanism of the drawers. Does anyone have practical experience with how a slight misalignment during assembly affects functionality? Also, are there any recommended tools that make assembly easier, such as special alignment tools or specific screwing techniques?

Hi! I initially underestimated my PLATSA drawers too, but with patience and a bit of effort, everything worked out perfectly! Here are my tips:
- Always do a trial assembly before final screwing.
- Secure the drawer slides using a small spacer (e.g., a piece of cardboard) to allow some play for slight adjustments.
- This makes the drawers roll much more smoothly and prevents them from sticking.
- Frequently check the alignment during assembly, as even the smallest deviations can have an effect.
Don’t give up; the result is definitely worth it! You’ll really feel like a furniture pro afterwards 🙂
