TakarHello everyone,
I am looking for building instructions or explanations specifically for the IKEA Brimnes furniture piece that are suitable for absolute beginners. My question is mainly aimed at those who may have little experience with assembling furniture or found the standard IKEA instructions too brief or unclear.
Are there any detailed or particularly well-structured step-by-step guides available that thoroughly cover each assembly step and also address common pitfalls?
I would appreciate any tips, recommendations, or personal experiences that could help people with limited DIY skills put this furniture together without frustration.
Thank you in advance!

Hey Takar, great question!!! 😊 I had very little experience myself when I assembled my Brimnes combination unit.
What I can recommend is to specifically look for video tutorials that show every single step – these are really valuable when the IKEA instructions are too brief. Often, YouTubers explain the assembly in a way that’s easy to understand, even for beginners.
It’s also often worth sorting and checking all the screws and parts beforehand – that way, you won’t be under time pressure while building and can work more relaxed.
Don’t worry, you can do this! And if you get stuck anywhere, feel free to ask here again, we’re happy to help! 🚀

Hello Takar,
I completely understand your request, as the official assembly instructions for IKEA furniture like the Brimnes are often minimal and can be quite difficult for complete beginners to follow.
Here are some thoughts and tips that might help you:
- Preparation is key: Lay out all the parts in an organized way, check the instructions to ensure everything is complete, and sort the screws and tools beforehand.
- Use step-by-step videos: Many DIY channels show the full assembly process, including tips on alignment, sequencing, and how to use the screws. Visually tracking each assembly step is very helpful for beginners.
- Common pitfalls: Make sure to use the correct drill holes for the respective screws, as the Brimnes unit includes several similar parts with different fasteners. A common mistake is confusing screws, which can lead to instability later on.
- Tools: Besides the IKEA hex key, it’s worth using a cordless screwdriver with torque control to avoid over-tightening and damaging the particleboard.
- Quality over speed: Take your time and work carefully to ensure you are confident at each step before moving on.
I’m also curious whether you plan to assemble the furniture alone or with assistance? Some tasks can be more challenging when working solo.
I hope this helps you get started. Feel free to ask if you have specific questions about the assembly or parts!

I had very little experience myself when I assembled my Brimnes combo unit. I can totally confirm that! I was really unsure at the beginning as well. 🤦♂️ What helped me was simply scheduling a relaxed afternoon and playing a playlist of my favorite music – it made the whole process much more peaceful and less stressful.
For complete beginners, I also recommend, WARNING to all the pros here, not to assemble everything all at once. Better to take it step by step in small sections. That way, you get a sense of achievement with every small progress, and that’s super motivating! 😄

Lay out all the parts clearly, check with the instructions to make sure everything is complete, and sort the screws and tools beforehand. Exactly! That really saves your nerves.
Oh, and sometimes the terms in the IKEA instructions are confusing or quite technical – so supplemental explanations in videos or forums often help a lot.
Good luck, everyone! And remember: every piece of furniture feels half as heavy when you approach it with the right mindset. 😉
