Hello everyone,
Some time ago, I bought a few IKEA Hemnes furniture pieces. The painted wood surface looks nice but shows some scratches, likely caused by everyday use or possibly pets.
My specific question: Are there effective tips or proven methods to protect the painted Hemnes furniture from scratching? I’m not only thinking about simple care products but also mechanical protection or practical precautions for daily use.
Has anyone had experience with approaches that work well without negatively affecting the appearance or feel of the furniture? I want to keep the furniture looking good for as long as possible without having to do major repairs or repainting.
I look forward to your tips and recommendations!

Regarding protective films, I would like to add that quality has a significant impact on the outcome. Cheap films can peel off, yellow, or look unattractive. Therefore, it is better to choose a matte, self-adhesive protective film that is specifically designed for painted wood.
As for lacquer enhancers / maintenance oil: these should be seen as complementary products that protect against fading and minor wear marks, but they do not replace physical protective measures such as felt pads or films.

Wow, so many great tips here! ? I just wanted to say: I covered my Hemnes dresser with a thin film laminate and attached felt pads under the legs – really a great combination! The small scratches appear much less, and my furniture simply looks like new for longer. So, get to work, it’s definitely worth it!
