Hello everyone,

I have been having the problem for some time that my IKEA Malm furniture is getting increasingly noticeable scratches. In particular, the surfaces show signs of wear quite quickly, even though I have been handling them with great care so far.

Does anyone have tips or specific measures to effectively prevent scratches on Malm dressers or desks? I’m not looking for general maintenance advice, but rather practical tricks, everyday tips, or product recommendations that help protect the surface in the long term.

I would appreciate it if someone could share their experiences or small life hacks. Thanks in advance!

Since then, I have been using a transparent protective film that can be cut to fit perfectly – it is almost invisible and provides excellent protection against surface scratches.

I would like to reinforce this point.

In my opinion, using precisely cut protective films is the most effective way to protect, especially for MALM, which has delicate melamine coatings.

For those who are less skilled with DIY, there are also tailor-made adhesive films available online that can be ordered specifically for MALM desks or dressers.

In addition, regular polishing with furniture care products designed specifically for coated surfaces can reduce micro-scratches and make the surface slightly more resistant.

This is also important, especially regular and gentle care. This way, the surface retains its shine longer and becomes more resistant to minor scratches.
