Peda3Hello everyone,
I am planning to assemble an Ikea Brimnes wardrobe and would like to know if there are any specific tips or tricks to make the assembly process smoother. It is important for me to complete the job efficiently and without mistakes, as the instructions are generally clear but some steps can be quite complex, especially the installation of the drawers and door fittings.
Does anyone have experience with saving time or avoiding common mistakes? Are there any helpful tools you would recommend using, or particular steps that should be done in a certain order?
Thanks in advance for your support!

To optimize the assembly of the Ikea BRIMNES wardrobe, I recommend the following approach:
- Sort all parts and check for completeness before starting.
- Group the included screws and fittings by type.
- Use a cordless drill with adjustable speed to avoid over-tightening screws.
- Read the entire manual in advance to understand the overall construction.
- Assemble drawers and doors only at the end, as they can get in the way when handling the carcasses.
- Pay special attention to the correct alignment of the drawer slides to prevent future jamming.
Tools: A tape measure, flathead or Phillips screwdriver, a small hammer for dowels, and, if needed, a square for alignment, are very helpful.
This structured approach reduces the need for later corrections and makes the assembly process much easier overall.

Install drawers and doors only at the end, as they can be inconvenient when handling the carcasses. That’s an important tip, thank you. I was just wondering whether it might be better to install the drawers beforehand for increased stability. Is there perhaps a recommended sequence to follow when drilling the holes or using the dowels?
Also, how tightly should the screws be fastened? So far I haven’t found any specific guidance on the torque in the instructions, which makes me a bit uncertain. Too tight, and the material might warp; too loose, of course, isn’t good either.
I can contribute some insights from my experience, especially regarding screw tightening force and order:
- Start by temporarily assembling the frame and side panels with the dowels, without fully tightening the screws. This allows for minor adjustments and prevents tension.
- Screws should be tightened by hand with moderate torque. A good test is: if you use a manual screwdriver, there should be noticeable resistance, but not so much that you can only turn it with force.
- When using a cordless drill, be sure to set it to a low torque setting to avoid damaging the material.
- The dowels mainly help with alignment. Insert them first and keep the screws slightly loose until the furniture is fully pre-assembled.
- Only fully tighten the screws after all side panels and back walls are completely assembled.
Regarding drawers and doors:
- Attaching them at the end not only provides more freedom of movement during assembly but also ensures that the drawer slides can be precisely aligned.
- Check that the slides are installed parallel and level, otherwise the drawers may stick later.
In summary: tighten screws gradually and lightly, tightening them fully only at the end. This prevents problems later caused by tension and material deformation.
