Hello everyone,

I recently bought some IKEA Besta furniture and want to protect it from scratches in the long term. The surfaces aren’t very durable, and I’ve read that they can be quite prone to wear and tear.

Do you have any tips on how to avoid scratches, especially on the doors and top surfaces? Which materials or methods are suitable to protect the furniture from everyday signs of use?

I’m interested in what has proven effective in daily life—whether it’s a special protective film, coatings, or even practical handling advice for the furniture.

Looking forward to your experience and suggestions!

I can definitely understand how scratches on the Besta furniture can often spoil the enjoyment. I had similar concerns at the beginning.

My impression is that it’s not just one single thing, but a combination of several small measures that provide the best protection:

- Protective films: Especially useful for bookcases and surfaces that get a lot of use.
- Felt pads: For doors and drawers, to prevent direct contact with other furniture parts and walls.
- Glass top: If you often work on or place objects on the Besta, a glass top offers the best protection.
- Careful handling: This might seem obvious, but avoiding keys and sharp objects directly on the surface helps a lot.

I think combining these methods gives the best results.

I’m also interested if anyone has had negative experiences with protective films—perhaps they slip around quickly?

I once used a protective film that was recommended by IKEA, and at first it worked really well. However, after a few months, it started to peel slightly at the edges, which was annoying.

My advice: If you decide to use films, choose a high-quality film with strong adhesive power – not the cheapest option.

What I also find helpful is regularly cleaning with a soft, slightly damp cloth to remove dust particles that could otherwise cause scratches.

In the end, protecting furniture also requires some gentle care, but that’s true for all furniture anyway. 😉
