Hello everyone, I recently purchased an IKEA Besta shelving unit and want to install the doors on it. I’m having trouble fitting the doors so they close flush without any unsightly gaps. My main concern is adjusting the hinges and possibly making some modifications to the frame or doors.

Does anyone have experience or tips on how to fit Besta doors perfectly so they sit cleanly without frequent readjustments? What tools are useful, and are there any tricks for dealing with uneven walls or small measurement deviations?

I would appreciate your advice – ideally step-by-step instructions or pointers on what to watch out for beforehand.

Hello Likar,

I had a similar issue with my Besta doors, and what really helped me was using small rubber spacers to make slight adjustments at critical points. This way, you can elegantly conceal small gaps and distribute the pressure on the hinges more evenly.

Also, before final installation, try lifting and swinging the doors with the hinges attached. If you feel the door sticking anywhere when closing, simply adjust the corresponding screw by about half a turn as needed.

Another tip: be sure to check that the screws on the cabinet frame are tight. Loose fastenings inevitably lead to readjustments and avoidable gaps.

Patience really pays off here, so take your time with the adjustments. Work step by step and check after each step – that’s how you turn any cabinet door into a little masterpiece! Good luck!

In addition to the previous tips, I consider it helpful to also check the condition of the surface on which the BESTA shelving unit stands.

An uneven floor can cause the entire frame to lean slightly, which directly affects the fit of the doors.

Recommendations:
- Ensure the shelving unit is placed on a level floor with adjustable feet, or use small plastic or wooden wedges at the back or along the bottom edges to achieve proper alignment.
- Use a precise measuring tool to check the gap dimensions.

Furthermore, the IKEA assembly instructions should be followed carefully, as some door models in the BESTA system have different tolerance ranges for the hinges that should be understood.

Finally, some fine-tuning is part of the process, especially with modular furniture in varied room conditions. One of my best tools was a small Torx screwdriver for precise adjustments, which proved to be more effective with certain models.
