The hinges do have adjustment options, but I can’t seem to find a satisfactory setting that aligns the doors neatly and allows them to close flush.
Does anyone have tips on how to better adjust the doors of Ikea Besta furniture? Maybe there are specific tricks or a particular order of steps that help to fine-tune the door height, gap, and depth more precisely? It would be great if you could share your experiences, including any common mistakes to avoid.

Does anyone have tips on how to better adjust the doors of the Ikea Besta furniture?I completely understand how frustrating it can be when the doors just don’t fit properly. In my experience, it often comes down to small adjustments of the hinges. I found it helpful to first optimize the vertical adjustment, then the lateral, and finally the gap to the cabinet front.
Sometimes it also helps to remove the doors briefly and then reattach them – this way, you can quickly check if the hinges are properly seated in the track.
Keep at it, it will definitely work out! No one found the perfect solution right away. Sometimes it takes a bit of patience.

The hinges do have adjustment options, but somehow I can't find a satisfactory settingHere is a brief guide to help you adjust the Besta doors step by step:
- First, check if the hinges are installed correctly and tightened securely.
- Vertical adjustment: loosen the hinge screws, move the door to the desired height, then tighten the screws again.
- Side adjustment: usually possible via a rotary screw on the hinge plate, allowing you to adjust the gap between the door and the cabinet.
- Depth adjustment: often done with a screw that moves the door closer to or further away from the cabinet.
Important: always adjust only one screw at a time and close the door after each adjustment to check the effect.
A common mistake is to adjust too many screws at once, which makes alignment more difficult. If the door is warped, trying a new hinge plate might help.

Does anyone have tips on how to better adjust the doors of the Ikea Besta furniture? Maybe there are special tricks or sequences that help to set the door height, gap, and depth more precisely?I can relate well to this topic since I have several Besta cabinets at home and often need to readjust the doors. It’s important to adopt a structured approach when adjusting:
- First, check the hinge on the cabinet frame to ensure it is firmly attached. Loose or improperly installed hinges won’t result in a good fit, even with perfect adjustments.
- When mounting the doors, it’s advisable to screw them in loosely at first, allowing some room for fine-tuning.
- Think of the adjustment sequence like this: start with correcting the height (top and bottom with the vertical screw), then adjust the lateral position (side-to-side offset relative to the cabinet front), and finally set the depth (using the screw at the back of the hinge).
- It’s also helpful to use a spirit level or a simple square to check that the door is not hanging crooked.
If you follow this process and turn each adjustment screw only slightly, you can gradually find the optimal position. If your doors are made of plastic or MDF, also check if the edges are warped, as no amount of adjustment will fix that.
If you like, I can also write you a brief step-by-step guide – just let me know!
