Hello everyone, I have a Hemnes bed from Ikea, and lately it has been creaking occasionally, which is especially annoying at night. I suspect the noise mainly comes from the joints between the wooden parts or the slatted bed bases. The bed is less than three years old but has been assembled and disassembled several times, which might have loosened the screws or connections.

Do you have practical tips to permanently stop the creaking? Which products or techniques reliably help with these kinds of issues? Are there specific maintenance products, tools, or methods to keep Hemnes beds stable?

I look forward to your experiences and advice, including any technical details or hints I might have easily overlooked.

There are several steps you can systematically follow to fix the annoying squeaking in Ikea HEMNES beds. First, it is important to identify the exact source of the noise. Squeaking often occurs where wood rubs against wood or where screws are loose.

- Check screws and connections: Screws tend to loosen after multiple assemblies and disassemblies. Therefore, carefully tighten them, but not too much to avoid damaging the wood.

- Treat wooden joints: Some recommend applying wood glue sparingly to the connection points. This can help stabilize the joints somewhat.

- Use furniture pads or felt gliders: Thin felt pads placed between contact surfaces can reduce friction and help minimize squeaking.

- Apply lubricants properly: Silicone spray or wax sticks work well to lubricate wooden slats or moving screws, but avoid WD-40 as it can damage wood.

If you can provide more details about your bed setup (e.g., type of slatted frame, screw type), I can offer more targeted advice. How does your bed handle the slatted frame? Are all screws easily accessible?

This is a point I can definitely agree with. With HEMNES beds, the squeaking almost always comes from loose screws at the joints. From my experience, these specific tips can also help:

- Use an Allen key to systematically check all screws at the corners and crossbars.
- First, turn them slightly counterclockwise to remove any debris, then tighten them again to ensure a better fit.
- To prevent noises in the wood, a small drop of wood glue on the joint surfaces can help, as Palenar mentioned.
- Also make sure the slatted frame is properly and firmly positioned. Sometimes rubber pads can squeak; these can be reordered from Ikea.

In general, it is important to also check the mattress size—if it is too narrow and shifts, that can cause noise as well.

Tighten all screws.

Then apply silicone spray or furniture wax to the joints, either by spraying or rubbing it in.

For slatted frames: use rubber buffers.

Squeaking is almost always caused by moving wood or loose screws.

That is already a very good assessment. Squeaking usually occurs precisely where flexible wooden joints move. If you have already checked the screws, I recommend the following:

- Also inspect the surface of the support battens under the slatted frame. If there are small cracks or indentations, a very thin felt strip can help reduce friction.

- It may also be worthwhile to rub beeswax on the contact points between the side and cross beams. It lubricates well, is wood-friendly, and provides long-lasting protection.

- Some people also use small wooden dowels to reinforce the joints slightly if they become loose.

- Regarding screws loosening: If you have already tried tightening them, try putting a drop of wood glue into the screw hole before re-tightening the screw. This provides extra fixation.

Could you provide more details about the type of your slatted frame? There are differences in bonding and assembly that can promote or reduce squeaking.
