Hello everyone, I currently have a small room and want to install the Ikea Brimnes system there. In general, I find this model quite practical, but especially in small rooms, it can sometimes be challenging to arrange the furniture so that the space doesn’t feel cramped while still keeping everything functional.

Therefore, my question to you is: Are there any special tips or advice for space-saving installation of Ikea BRIMNES cabinets and beds, particularly in small rooms with limited floor space? Which installation methods or adjustment options have worked well for you to use the furniture as efficiently and space-saving as possible?

I look forward to your experiences and tips!

One final question: What are the exact room dimensions, and how much floor space is currently available for the furniture?

Thank you for the detailed response, Palenar. The room is quite small, approximately 2.60 x 3.10 meters (8.5 x 10.2 feet). The ceiling height is 2.50 meters (8.2 feet).

The usable floor space is limited; I think a maximum of 1.80 meters (5.9 feet) in width along one wall would be available for a wardrobe. Ideally, the bed should be placed lengthwise along the opposite wall.

It is important to keep enough free movement space, with at least a 60 cm (24 inches) wide passageway. Not an easy situation.

I am particularly interested in modification options for the Brimnes, such as converting it to sliding doors or combining the bed with storage solutions for more efficient use. Also, any advice on common mistakes to avoid during assembly would be appreciated.

Hello maciejren,

Regarding your room dimensions, I would like to add the following: With a width of 2.60 m (8.5 feet), I recommend choosing BRIMNES with sliding doors, as these do not require any additional clearance for opening. However, installation is a bit more complex, so it’s important to carefully study the instructions.

The BRIMNES bed is available with built-in drawers, which should definitely be used to provide extra storage space.

In your case, a traditional loft bed might not be suitable, but a low-profile design with an integrated storage box or drawers appears less bulky.

To avoid mistakes: Make sure to check the walls for flatness before installation, as uneven walls can block sliding doors or hinged doors. Consistently use a spirit level and install wall brackets if needed to increase stability.

I hope this helps you with your decision and planning.

Hey maciejren, I know the situation with small rooms and bulky furniture!

My advice: really use the full height of the room, since BRIMNES is quite tall, you can store lightweight boxes or items you rarely use at the top.

I’ve had my BRIMNES bed for years and love the drawers. A huge plus in small spaces!

One more tip: if you assemble the drawers with a very light adjustment, they slide better and adapt to your daily movements.

And of course – don’t get discouraged, with a bit of experimenting you can make even small rooms feel really cozy!

Building on the discussion here, I would like to add:

- The use of flexible interior fittings in the BRIMNES wardrobes is crucial. Built-in elements with adjustable partitions help to organize storage space efficiently.
- Also consider the option of adjusting the furniture legs to raise the wardrobes by about 5 cm (2 inches). This creates additional storage space underneath without altering the furniture piece itself.
- If possible, the installation should ensure that the wardrobes are secured to the wall at least at two points to reduce the risk of tipping, especially when they are built taller.

The overall concept should be: tall rather than wide, versatile in use, and modular in design.
