BateoGood morning everyone,
I am planning to use the Ikea PLATSA cabinets for a children’s room but have concerns about their stability, especially with kids playing nearby. Are there any proven tips or methods for securely anchoring PLATSA units in a child’s room to prevent them from tipping over or wobbling? I am particularly interested in which fastening techniques work best, whether additional reinforcements are advisable, and if there are specific solutions that optimize the furniture assembly without requiring major structural changes.
Thanks in advance for your experiences and advice!

Hello Bateo,
To securely anchor the Ikea PLATSA furniture in the children’s room, there are a few important points to consider beyond the included wall anchors:
- First, make sure to check the type of wall (drywall, concrete, wood), as this determines the choice of plugs and screws.
- For drywall, I recommend using special drywall anchors or molly bolts that provide strong holding power.
- When combining multiple PLATSA units, additional corner brackets to screw the individual pieces together are useful, as this significantly increases the overall rigidity of the construction.
- You can also place furniture glides or felt pads under base units to reduce vibrations and prevent slipping.
- To prevent tipping, I suggest securing the furniture to the wall on multiple levels, both at the top and in the middle.
I have applied this method in my daughter’s room and can say that the combination of high-quality anchors, interconnecting screws, and multi-point wall attachments really provides safety.
This is especially important with children, as they often lean on or pull at edges.

Also, it is important not to overestimate the load capacity of individual modules – PLATSA furniture is designed for versatile use, but not for children climbing on it. For extra safety, an anti-tip kit, like those available with children's furniture, is also helpful.
I think people sometimes worry too much about stability when they are only using basic furniture like the Ikea standard. Of course, safety is important – no question – but honestly: it’s also a bit of fun when children can be a little rough.
My advice is to use foam padding and flexible fasteners instead of screwing everything down tightly. This way, the furniture wall remains somewhat flexible and doesn’t break from the smallest vibrations. The idea of fastening furniture down in detail seems more like turning chairs and tables into a kind of prison – of course, everyone has to decide for themselves, but I don’t always think it’s the best approach.
