Hello everyone,
I have several Hemnes cabinets from Ikea at home that, over time, have started to loosen in various places or show minor damage such as torn joints and some drawers that stick. I’m specifically interested in practical and proven tips or guides for repairing Hemnes cabinets.
What would be especially helpful are suggestions on tightening screws, replacing or reinforcing connectors, and dealing with damaged wooden parts. Experiences with special tools or replacement parts would also be appreciated.
I would be grateful if those who have already done repairs on Hemnes furniture could share their knowledge – ideally including advice on how to avoid mistakes and keep the furniture stable for as long as possible. Thanks in advance!

A practical additional note regarding drilling out screw holes and inserting wood pieces to restore stability:
- Use hardwood scraps for the inserts whenever possible, as they are more durable.
- File or sand the inserted pieces lightly so that they are flush with the surface.
- When screwing in the screw, insert it slowly without applying too much pressure; it is better to tighten it gradually in several steps than to force it in all at once.
– If the area is subject to heavy load, a small metal plate or angle iron can also be installed from the inside to reinforce the connection permanently.
This procedure is often recommended for solid pine furniture to achieve longer durability.

I will try the advice about filling the screw holes with wooden plugs and glue, while also paying closer attention to the moisture issues in my room and trying to improve them.
What I’m still unclear about is: Is there a recommended procedure if the drawer slides are completely warped and the drawers are sticking as a result? Replacement? Repair?
I appreciate your experiences on this.

What I’m still unclear about: Is there a recommended procedure if the drawer slides are completely warped and the drawers are therefore sticking? If the drawer slides are warped, you should first check whether they are metal or wood slides.
- For metal slides: These are often screwed in and can be adjusted with some fine-tuning. If the metal is bent, it can be carefully reshaped using pliers.
- For wood slides: Replacement is usually the only option, as wood tends to warp permanently under stress and humidity.
If replacement parts are difficult to find, it is possible to retrofit drawer runners—official Ikea replacement parts or universal drawer slides from furniture supply stores are suitable.
Important: Proper alignment and secure fastening are essential; otherwise, long-term problems with opening and closing may occur.
