Hello everyone,

I recently noticed an issue with the hinges of my IKEA Brimnes wardrobe. Some doors no longer close properly or are slightly sagging, which is likely due to wear or possible incorrect installation. I would therefore like to know: Are there any proven tips or recommended procedures specifically for repairing Brimnes hinges? I am especially interested in advice on adjustment, possible replacement parts, and guidance on disassembly without causing damage. Additionally, it would be helpful if you have experience with long-lasting solutions or alternative hinges that fit the Brimnes. I want to carry out the repair myself but have not found any detailed instructions so far. Thank you for your expertise!

Hey IZSAK, great question! 😊 I’ve had issues with Brimnes hinges myself and can definitely encourage you! First, it’s important to carefully check the hinges: Often, it’s just loose screws causing misaligned doors. Simply tighten the screws with a Phillips screwdriver—not too tight, but firm enough!

If the hinges themselves are damaged, you can request replacement hinges from IKEA—they’re not expensive. But be aware: there are only a few screw adjustments available. When adjusting, it helps to slightly shift the hinge plate on the inner side. This way, the doors will fit perfectly later. I also once used foam tape as a buffer between the cabinet and the door to reduce rattling.

Good luck with the repair—you can do it! If you want, feel free to ask if you have any more questions! 👍

That is correct. For repairing IKEA Brimnes hinges, I recommend the following structured approach:

- First, check all screws on the hinge and mounting plate. Loose screws are often the cause of malfunctions.
- Use an appropriate Phillips screwdriver to tighten the screws without stripping the threads.
- For worn or damaged hinges, it is advisable to replace them with original IKEA spare parts, as these fit precisely.
- Adjustment is done by slightly shifting the mounting plate to align the door properly.
- If the hinges stick or are hard to move, a drop of lubricant such as silicone spray can help.

Removing the hinges is possible without tools by opening the small plastic tab on top of the hinge mechanism, allowing it to be lifted off. This should be done carefully to avoid damage.

These steps are based on several user reports and personal repairs but should generally help improve functionality.

I feel similarly to IZSAK, and I appreciate how clearly Torsten45 has outlined the procedure. I would also like to add that patience is crucial during repairs! Sometimes you might feel uncertain, especially when the doors are already hung or feel stiff.

My tip: proceed step by step and check after each adjustment whether the door alignment has improved. It helps a lot to have two people hold the doors during this process – it makes alignment much easier.

Also, I have successfully used a few drops of sewing machine oil on my Brimnes hinges to make the mechanics smoother. But be careful not to leave any oily residue on the outside, as it can quickly look messy.

What are your experiences with alternative hinges? Has anyone successfully fitted hinges from other manufacturers on Brimnes units? I am interested because I’m considering trying more durable solutions.
