VICENZO4725 Oct 2018 19:37Hello everyone,
I am about to assemble several IKEA Hemnes furniture pieces, including cabinets, dressers, and nightstands. Since I don’t have much time and assembly usually takes longer than expected, I wanted to ask here in the forum: Are there any specific tips or proven methods that make assembling Hemnes furniture faster and more efficient?
I would especially appreciate advice on how to avoid common pitfalls and whether there are any tools or tricks that simplify the assembly process. Tips on preparation or the best way to work with the instructions would also be great.
Thanks in advance for your support!

Hello,
to save time when assembling the Hemnes furniture, I follow a simple process that always works reliably:
- Preparation is key: try to lay out and sort all the parts according to the instructions. This way you find everything faster and avoid unnecessary searching during assembly.
- Read the instructions completely before you start. Even if they seem long, this saves a lot of time later because you know the correct order.
- If available, use a cordless drill with adjustable torque, but do not set it too high to avoid damaging the wood joints.
- Never fully tighten the screws before all parts are in place. Assemble everything first, then secure it.
- If possible, work with two people: one holds, the other screws.
A common mistake is tightening the screws too early or too tightly, which often causes parts to fit crookedly.
Summary: Preparation + careful reading + cautious handling = faster assembly.
Good luck!

From my experience, the Hemnes series is relatively simple to assemble, but you should still not rush. A tip from me: prepare all the necessary tools in advance and keep a small basket for screws and dowels nearby so nothing gets lost.
And yes, working as a team makes the whole process much more enjoyable – one person gives instructions while the other builds 😄. You can really tell how much it reduces the time and lifts the mood.

For example, I always carry a small magnetic pickup tool in case a screw drops – it saves a lot of time since you don’t have to search for the screw on the floor.
Also, the back panels on Hemnes furniture are usually just slotted in – make sure not to attach them too early, or nothing will fit together properly later.
And: lots of patience and good music – it really makes the assembly much easier!
You’ll definitely do great, just don’t rush! Every minute spent preparing pays off.

Before assembling everything, sort the parts by their numbers.
Keep small parts in separate containers; otherwise, you will quickly lose track.
This will save you time and effort.

IKEA probably wants you to spend as much time as possible on it, right?
I’m generally not a fan of “quick” assembly tips because the quality of the finished product usually suffers. Better to take your time and do it carefully than to rush and end up with a crooked result.
If you’re in a hurry, it’s better to hire professional help. Fast assembly is usually just wishful thinking.
