Hello everyone,
I recently purchased the Ikea Platsa wardrobe system and am very pleased with the appearance of the wood surfaces. However, since I want the surfaces to stay looking nice for as long as possible and to be resistant to scratches, stains, or moisture, I’m wondering: Are there any specific tips for effectively protecting the wood surfaces of the Ikea PLATSA furniture?
I’m particularly interested in which types of surface treatments or care products are recommended, whether home remedies are truly suitable or might do more harm, and how to avoid common everyday risks that could damage the wood surfaces.
Does anyone have practical experience or recommendations for proper care and protection to keep the furniture in good condition over time? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I’m also interested if anyone has experience with specific brands of cleaning agents or furniture care sprays that are specially designed for melamine-coated furniture.I use a mild cleaning spray made for plastic furniture, and it works great! It cleans the surface well without leaving any streaks or stickiness. But be sure to test it first on an inconspicuous spot before spraying the entire piece! Safety first! 🙂

Universal furniture cleaners with a pH-neutral formula are well suited. That is exactly what I recommend as well. Especially for furniture with laminated or melamine-coated surfaces, it is important to pay attention to the pH level, as alkaline or acidic cleaners can damage the surface.
Usage tip: Spray sparingly onto the cloth only, never directly onto the furniture, to maintain better control and protect the furniture from moisture damage.
Finally: Avoid wax polish, as it remains sticky and attracts dust.
A important note regarding cleaning sprays: Some products contain plasticizers or silicones that may provide a good appearance temporarily but can damage the surface in the long run.
Therefore, it is best to always check the ingredients: avoid products containing paraffin, silicone oil, or mineral oil.
Regular cleaning with clear water or a mild, pH-neutral cleaner is ideal for Platsa.
