Hello everyone, I am currently planning to modify my Ikea Hemnes dressers and wanted to ask if anyone has tips or proven methods, especially regarding stability and aesthetics.
I want to keep the basic frame but change some elements, for example, replacing the fronts, possibly installing drawer dividers, and maybe upgrading the handles and surface finish. It is important to me that the dresser not only looks good afterward but is also stable enough for daily use.
Does anyone have experience with this and can offer advice on material selection, suitable tools, or potential pitfalls? I would really appreciate if you could share your recommendations!

If you build drawer dividers, cut the wooden strips to the exact size and glue them in. I can only confirm that. I did the same, and the drawers have not been damaged for years. It’s best to use wood glue with strong initial tack and, if you want to be extra sure, secure the parts additionally with small nails.M

The original screws from Ikea are generally well-sized for the intended construction, but if you add extra load, I recommend switching to sturdier screws that are slightly longer.
Also, make sure the screws are made of rust-resistant material or are properly treated, especially if the dresser is placed in damp rooms.
