I want to keep the basic frame but change some elements, for example, replacing the fronts, possibly installing drawer dividers, and maybe upgrading the handles and surface finish. It is important to me that the dresser not only looks good afterward but is also stable enough for daily use.
Does anyone have experience with this and can offer advice on material selection, suitable tools, or potential pitfalls? I would really appreciate if you could share your recommendations!

I would always start by completely removing the front panels and checking if the screws and fasteners are still secure. This way, you can install the new parts more easily and avoid unsightly damage. Important: Use good quality wood adhesive tape if you are gluing anything.
Hello! To increase stability, make sure not to neglect the back panel – it often provides significant support, and if you remove it, you will need to reinforce the structure elsewhere.
Regarding the surface, sanding and repainting is a good alternative to foil or laminate, as this keeps the surface breathable and less prone to scratches.
You can easily make drawer dividers yourself using wooden strips, which you glue and screw inside – this keeps everything firmly in place.

As an addition: If you modify the drawers, make sure the slides and rollers are in good condition. Many issues during remodeling arise when the hardware doesn’t fit properly or is too stiff.
The attachment of the handles is also crucial, as it significantly affects the appearance. I recommend using a template beforehand to ensure all holes are neat and aligned.

I am considering replacing the fronts and using MDF panels, which I would then paint. Will that bond well with the existing carcass? Is there anything special I should keep in mind?
This works well if you attach MDF with appropriate screws and especially make sure not to use screws that are too long to avoid breakthrough.
Wood glue can also help, particularly when used in addition to screws. It is important to pre-drill everything carefully to prevent the MDF from splitting. When painting, it is best to use a primer first, as this leads to the cleanest finish.
