Eldar66Dear community, I hope you can help me. I am planning to disassemble some IKEA Brimnes furniture because I’m moving. Although the furniture is relatively easy to take apart, I’m concerned that some parts might get damaged in the process. Therefore, I’m looking for specific tips or experiences regarding the disassembly of BRIMNES furniture—perhaps there are certain screws that need to be handled very carefully, or tricks to avoid damage to the black surfaces? Any advice on dealing with the metal runners and composite materials would also be greatly appreciated! I look forward to your suggestions and shared experiences.
Hey Eldar66! Great that you brought up this topic. Last year, I disassembled my BRIMNES dresser and moved it without any problems. My tips: - Definitely handle the screws carefully when loosening them, as they are often recessed, and it helps to use the original size of the hex key. - The black surfaces are quite delicate, so it’s better to support them with a soft cloth and avoid using hard tools. - If you take apart the metal drawer slides, be sure to remove and keep the small plastic stoppers! This makes it easier to secure the slides again during reassembly. No worries, you can do it—just take your time and be precise! 🙂
Hello! When disassembling BRIMNES furniture, it works best if you first closely examine how everything is screwed together – almost like a small furniture puzzle! 🙂 I would also recommend collecting all screws in small bags and labeling them, otherwise you can quickly lose track. To protect the surfaces, I always place an old blanket or towel under the furniture pieces. And don’t worry, it works better than you might think – with a bit of patience, your BRIMNES bench or chest of drawers will be ready for the next use!

Those surfaces were my biggest concern since small scratches show up quickly. Does anyone have experience with specific brands or types of tools that are especially gentle? Also, when it comes to removing the drawer slides, is there anything to keep in mind, or can you just unscrew the screws?
