Now I’m wondering how to best clean these surfaces without damaging the matte finish or causing unsightly shiny spots. Are there any special cleaning tips or products that are particularly suitable for preserving the matte texture while still cleaning thoroughly? In everyday use, I usually only use a slightly damp cloth, but occasionally there are stains that need a stronger cleaning approach. I would appreciate any experiences and suggestions, including technical advice on suitable fabrics or cleaning agents.
For matte lacquered surfaces like those on Malm furniture, I recommend using only mild cleaning agents without solvents or alcohol. A damp microfiber cloth is usually sufficient. For tougher dirt, a drop of dish soap in lukewarm water can help. It is important to wipe the surface immediately afterward with a dry cloth to prevent water stains. Sanding or harsh abrasives should be avoided, as they can damage the matte finish and cause glossy spots.
I can definitely confirm the tip about using a microfiber cloth. I once had a small accident with a coffee stain on my Malm dressers and initially used a special wood cleaner – unfortunately, it left a slight sheen. After that, I switched back to gently cleaning with dish soap and water, which I believe preserved the matte finish best. This worked well for everyday stains in my experience. How do you handle more stubborn stains? I still have a few unresolved ones that sometimes bother me.
MDF with matte finish and stains? Don’t worry! 🙂 My secret tip: First, wipe it with warm water and a soft cloth. If that’s not enough, use a mild drop of dish soap—but sparingly! Then let it dry thoroughly. And very important, avoid household cleaners containing ammonia or alcohol, as they often cause more harm than good. This way, the matte finish stays nice and doesn’t become too shiny ;-)
