Hello everyone,

I recently purchased a Pax wardrobe system from Ikea and want to make sure I care for the surfaces correctly so they stay looking good for a long time. My main question is whether there are specific care tips related to the different surface types of the Pax system, especially the painted and melamine-coated fronts. Which cleaning products should I use, and are there any cleaning or care products that should definitely be avoided to prevent damage or discoloration? I am also interested in whether scratches or minor signs of wear can be repaired and how to best protect the surface from moisture.

I look forward to your experiences and tips!

Hello teguda,

Your question about care tips for Pax surfaces is very important, as different surface types require different approaches.

First of all: Avoid using harsh cleaning agents like abrasive powders or solvent-based products, as these can damage the surfaces. For melamine-coated surfaces, a soft cloth, dampened slightly, and a mild dish soap work well. This will remove a lot of dirt without affecting the surface.

For painted fronts, you need to be even more careful: avoid anything that could damage the paint layer, such as alcohol-based cleaners or abrasive cloths. A lightly dampened microfiber cloth often does the trick.

For maintenance and protection, you can also use special furniture care products designed for painted or coated furniture. These help provide some resistance against moisture and everyday wear.

Small scratches can be repaired with furniture touch-up markers or special furniture repair kits – I recommend testing these first on an inconspicuous spot.

Hope this helps! Feel free to ask if you have any more questions.

Great question, teguda!

I love my Pax wardrobe and have had really positive experiences with a little care! 😊 For me, regular cleaning with warm water and a mild detergent is completely sufficient.

I totally agree! I also avoid using microfiber cloths with rough fibers because I’m worried about micro-scratches, and instead use very soft ones that don’t harm the surface.

Regarding scratches: if there’s a small mark, try using a color-matched wax stick—it works almost like magic for me sometimes.

Keep it up, and your wardrobe will still look great after years!

Regards,

Brief and to the point: No alcohol, no abrasive sponges, no harsh cleaners.

Warm water, mild detergent, and a soft cloth are sufficient for daily care. Scratches can be repaired using furniture repair kits.

Hello teguda,

I would like to add something: Especially with wardrobes like Pax, which are often placed in bedrooms or children’s rooms, the importance of humidity is often underestimated. Moisture can damage the surfaces, especially if water remains standing for a long time.

That is really essential advice. Additionally, I recommend wiping up liquids immediately and making sure that no puddles or droplets accumulate in joints or corners.

If you want to clean the wardrobe thoroughly, it’s best to use a damp cloth without wet spots and always dry afterwards. For minor wear, you can try furniture polish wax; it nourishes the surface and visually minimizes small scratches.

One more thing: Avoid direct sunlight on the surfaces to prevent fading.

I hope this helps you keep your Pax looking good for a long time!
