Hello everyone, I have some furniture from the Hemnes series by IKEA and would like to learn more about the proper care and cleaning of the surfaces. Most of the furniture is made of painted solid wood or MDF with a special coating, and I have read that not every cleaning method is suitable. Does anyone have proven tips or recommendations on which cleaning products to use, how often the surfaces should be cleaned, and what approaches are best for maintaining their appearance in the long term? Also, advice on common mistakes to avoid would be very helpful. Thanks in advance for your expertise!

As a preventive measure, I recommend cleaning furniture surfaces regularly with a soft cotton cloth and avoiding hard or dirty coverings.
In my experience, consistent care and gentle, regular maintenance make the difference. Even high-quality paints only last long if mechanical damage is avoided.

In addition to the previous discussion: The IKEA instructions for Hemnes furniture explicitly advise against using abrasive or aggressive cleaning products. It is also recommended to avoid household chemicals, solvents, or alcohol-based cleaners.
In my opinion, these pieces should be treated as painted wooden furniture, which also means avoiding waxes or oils, as these can cause the surface to swell or discolor.
It is important to maintain regular care with gentle cleaners and to remove dirt immediately to avoid damaging the protective layer. Covers, coasters, and protective pads are also advisable for tables or heavily used surfaces.
