Hello everyone,

I am considering getting an Ikea PAX wardrobe but currently don’t have anyone to help me assemble it. My question is: Are there any tips, tricks, or special techniques to successfully assemble the Ikea PAX wardrobe alone?

I am mainly concerned about stability during assembly, handling the large parts, and whether there are any aids or tools that could make the process easier.

I am reasonably handy but usually only have my own two hands available and would like to know if it is realistically doable and how to best approach it.

Thanks in advance for your opinions and experiences!

Hey artis,

Assembling the PAX alone? Challenge accepted! 😄 Honestly, it’s doable — you just need to keep a few things in mind.

- Take your time and schedule breaks. It takes longer when working solo.
- Invest in sturdy clamps or small helpers to hold parts in place.
- Have everything ready and sort the screws/parts before you start — this keeps the flow going.
- And yes, sometimes it helps to assemble the carcass on its back first and then carefully stand it up.

If you feel comfortable with a cordless drill, definitely use it — it saves time and effort.

Sure, it’s a bit trickier without a second person, but with patience and the right sequence, you can manage it! Good luck!

I basically agree with that, but for me the question is how practical the actual assembly really is.

If I understand correctly, when assembling the PAX wardrobe, especially attaching the back panel and standing up the carcass, you need at least one other person.

I wonder if all versions of the PAX can truly be done “alone” or if larger models might require a different approach.

Has anyone had direct experience assembling the largest model solo? How do you deal with stability while standing it up?

I also consider technical aids like clamps to be essential, but I see handling the large parts as the biggest challenge.

Hello artes and everyone interested,

From my own experience, I can say: Yes, it is possible to assemble the Ikea PAX wardrobe on your own – but you need to approach it strategically.

My tips:
- Assemble the carcass as much as possible while it is lying on the floor. It is more stable and easier before you try to stand the unit upright.
- Clamps or locking pliers are very helpful to temporarily hold parts in place – especially if you are working alone.
- Having a second person is helpful for large modules but not mandatory. If you are truly on your own, make sure you have enough space to stand the wardrobe up slowly and carefully.
- Use bright lighting and keep the assembly instructions readily available to avoid mistakes.

If you have specific questions or need help with intermediate steps, feel free to write here, I’m happy to assist!

In principle, assembling the Ikea PAX can be done alone, provided certain conditions are met.

- Allow plenty of time, as handling large panels without assistance takes significantly longer.
- Use tools that make securing parts easier (for example, clamps).
- Start by laying out and sorting all components, including screws, by type and size to improve efficiency.
- Assemble the modules as flat as possible before carefully standing them upright.
- Check stability after each step to prevent tipping or slipping.

For larger models, I still recommend having a second person help at least with standing the units upright, as the load on the components and risks of tipping increase.

All relevant information is based on documented assembly instructions and user experiences.

Going solo with the PAX system is possible.

- Assemble large components on the floor first.
- Use clamps.
- Carefully stand the carcass upright.
- Be patient.
