Hello everyone,
I’m about to start the project of assembling an IKEA Hemnes wardrobe completely on my own—without any help. My question is for anyone who has done this before or has experience with it: Are there any useful tips or tricks for completing the assembly efficiently and without outside assistance?
I’m especially interested in how to best organize the individual construction steps and whether there are specific tools or methods that have proven effective in practice. More than general motivational advice, I’m looking for a practical guide that takes into account the challenges and potential pitfalls of assembling the Hemnes system solo.
Thanks in advance for your helpful answers!

I just wanted to mention that it’s completely normal to spend 3-4 hours or more assembling a Hemnes wardrobe alone, especially if you work carefully and take breaks.
What helped me personally was slowing down the pace from time to time. It’s definitely better to double-check a step than to have to fix mistakes later on.
If you get stuck at any point, feel free to ask here again – often it helps when someone else looks at the assembly process from a different perspective and offers tips.
Don’t panic, you can do this!

Does anyone have experience with how long the assembly takes when working alone? I’ve read some manage it in 2 hours, others take 5 or more. That’s actually hard to generalize because the time needed really depends on factors such as:
- Experience with furniture assembly
- Familiarity with the specific product (Hemnes)
- Availability of tools
- Physical strength and stamina
- Breaks and interruptions
My advice: plan generously, even if that feels counterintuitive to many. Avoid stress, as it makes mistakes more likely.
And just one note: if you are mounting the cabinet to the wall, take your time with the wall fixtures – this is often the safety-critical part and should be handled with the same care as the assembly itself.
Here’s a little motivational boost:
Exactly! Sometimes small tools that you can borrow from neighbors or buy inexpensively make the whole project much more relaxed.
And don’t forget: Every IKEA Hemnes assembly you complete on your own turns you into a true pro for the next piece of furniture. It really builds a lot of confidence!

That’s a great tip, I saw the same thing with a neighbor. Simple aids like that can work wonders, especially when you’re working alone.
