molipraHello everyone,
I am planning to assemble the IKEA Brimnes wardrobe soon and was wondering if there are any special tools or equipment that could make the assembly significantly easier or faster. I have read that some IKEA furniture comes with Allen keys, but these are not always ideal, especially if you want to build the wardrobe more robustly and securely.
Are there any specific tool recommendations you have for assembling the BRIMNES wardrobe—such as particular screwdrivers or tips on additional aids that should be acquired? I would appreciate it if you could share your experiences or suggestions, as I want to complete the assembly as efficiently and error-free as possible. Thanks in advance!

Hello molipra!
I just assembled my BRIMNES last week and can share some tips that were really helpful! 😊
First of all: The included Allen key is quite small and not very comfortable for tightening all the screws properly. I recommend getting a good 4mm (5/32 inch) Allen key with a handle. It makes applying force much easier and saves your fingers!
Also: A cordless drill is almost essential if you don’t want to spend hours screwing. Make sure it has a low speed setting and, ideally, a torque control. Otherwise, you might overtighten the screws and damage the material.
And last but not least: A small rubber mallet can be very handy for gently adjusting the back panels and joints without causing any damage. Not a must-have, but definitely useful!
Good luck – you’ve got this! 🙂👍

Hello molipra,
to answer your question: The BRIMNES is generally an easy-to-assemble wardrobe that can be put together using the included tools. However, as already mentioned, using a good 4 mm (0.16 inch) hex key with an extended handle makes assembly much easier.
Additionally, I recommend:
- A small screwdriver to loosen or adjust furniture connectors.
- A tape measure or folding rule to check alignment in the room more accurately.
- If needed, a rubber mallet, as also mentioned, which I always keep handy.
If possible, assemble it with two people, as holding large parts and aligning them is more precise that way. Be careful not to overtighten the screws to avoid damaging the material.
If you have any more questions about the process, I’m happy to help.

Also: A cordless drill is practically a must if you don’t want to spend hours screwing. That is certainly good advice, but I would recommend using a cordless drill with caution. Especially with press-fit connector screws, too much torque can damage the material. A manual screwdriver offers more control in delicate areas.
Also, I wonder if the effort of using extra tools for the BRIMNES is always justified. IKEA products are often designed so that the included tools are sufficient if you proceed carefully. Could it be that these tool suggestions are more about convenience for demanding users rather than strict necessity?
What are your thoughts?

From a technical perspective:
- An ergonomic 4 mm hex key improves grip and reduces fatigue.
- A cordless drill with torque control saves time when dealing with many screws.
- A rubber mallet is not essential but helps prevent damage when fitting the back panel.
A cost-benefit analysis favors acquiring these tools if you assemble furniture frequently. For a one-time assembly, it mainly depends on personal preference and experience.
