Hello everyone,

I have a specific question for those who have experience with the plastic components of the Ikea Platsa system: Are there any special cleaning tips to maintain these plastic surfaces in a durable and scratch-free condition?

I’m not only referring to regular dust or fingerprints but also to more stubborn stains like grease marks or discoloration, which can particularly affect the white or colored plastic parts.

Which cleaning products or methods have you found effective in protecting the surface while still cleaning thoroughly?

Thanks in advance for your tips and experiences!

I completely understand your concern, especially when living in an apartment with children or pets where the PLATSA system is used frequently.

From my experience with plastic parts, you should definitely avoid abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals. The surface is quite sensitive, and scratches become visible very quickly.

My recommendation is to start with a soft cloth and warm water combined with a mild dish detergent. For stubborn stains, I have sometimes used a microfiber cloth with a little diluted vinegar – this worked well, but always wipe gently.

Still, I would be interested to hear if anyone has completely different or even better methods!

A brief addition to what has already been said: Ikea PLATSA mostly uses coated plastic, which is durable but not indestructible.

A few tips I find important:
- Avoid abrasive sponges or steel wool, as they can permanently dull or scratch the surface.
- Avoid cleaning agents with solvents (such as acetone or alcohol) because they can dissolve the plastic coating.
- Mild dish soap solutions work well for grease stains, and for heavy dirt, it’s better to repeat the cleaning multiple times rather than scrubbing hard.

If you want to be safe, test a cleaning product on an inconspicuous spot first to see how the surface reacts. This is often the best protection before cleaning a larger area.

I completely agree. Plastic in particular requires gentle care.

Hey, I find the PLATSA system really practical and have developed a fairly simple but effective cleaning method for my green version!

I usually use warm water with a mild dish soap, a soft cloth, and work with circular motions. After that, I dry everything with a soft, dry cloth. For stubborn stains, it works quite well for me to let the cleaning solution "sit" for a few minutes.

Important: No abrasive pads or harsh cleaners, as these can make the plastic dull and aged-looking!

Exactly! And one more thing: For marks caused by pens or similar, I sometimes try a plastic eraser, which works surprisingly well and doesn’t damage the surface.

I would like to add to the previous advice and explain in more detail how to properly care for and clean plastic parts from Ikea PLATSA so they can maintain a good appearance for a long time:

- Always start by dusting; a soft cloth or microfiber cloth is highly recommended right away, as dust particles can cause scratches during cleaning.
- For regular cleaning, lukewarm water with a small amount of mild dish soap works well. This is usually sufficient and protects the surface.
- Avoid harsh cleaners containing solvents or strongly alkaline substances, as these can damage the plastic structure and cause yellowing.
- For grease or stubborn dirt, you can apply isopropanol at a very low concentration (max. 70%) to a cloth, but test on a small area first to rule out any negative reaction.

This is a very good tip that I can confirm! However, in case of heavy soiling, it is better to proceed patiently; repeated gentle treatment is preferable to scratching or scrubbing.

If the plastic shows wear like this, polishing compounds for plastics can also help, but this is generally recommended only for experts or professionals. For normal use, mild cleaning methods are usually sufficient.

I hope this information is helpful for you.
