Hello everyone,

I am currently looking into whether there are reliable user experiences regarding the soft-close drawers of the IKEA Brimnes system. The furniture series itself seems quite popular, but I am not entirely sure how satisfied users are with the soft-close mechanism in the drawers. It would be interesting to know whether the soft-close function remains reliable after frequent use over a longer period, if there are any malfunctions or wear-related issues, and how well the drawers handle as a result.

I would especially appreciate feedback based not only on the moment of purchase but covering everyday use for at least six months. Additionally, I am interested in whether the installation of the soft-close drawers goes smoothly and how the quality compares to standard drawers without this damping feature.

Does anyone happen to have experience with the IKEA Brimnes system with soft-close drawers and can share their impressions? Thanks in advance!

I have been using the soft-close drawers in the Brimnes for about a year. They work reliably, close quietly, and without any jerking. No problems so far, no noises or jams. Installation was easy and they fit perfectly.

That’s a good point, as popularity alone doesn’t say much about quality or durability.

I wonder, though, to what extent IKEA has technically implemented the soft-close system in the Brimnes series properly? Often, inexpensive furniture uses simple mechanisms that aren’t always durable. Especially with frequently used furniture pieces, it would be interesting to see if the mechanism becomes stiff or prone to faults after a few months.

I would remain skeptical here, too, since soft-close mechanisms often require minor adjustments that may not always be intuitive for end users. A detailed report on this would be helpful.

Glad to hear that!

Sometimes I feel that soft-close systems close a bit too gently and therefore don’t always latch completely—do you experience that with Brimnes?

Since we’re talking about furniture used daily, the comfort really should be a noticeable upgrade. The quiet closing especially makes a difference at night or in the early morning. 😌

If the mechanism ever gets stuck, how easy is it to repair or replace the dampers? IKEA can be quite customer-friendly in this regard, or do you usually end up replacing the whole piece?

Thanks for your brief but valuable contribution!

No, I haven’t experienced that with Brimnes. The drawers always close completely. When you pull them in quickly, you can clearly feel a gentle “pull-in” all the way to the end.

Fortunately, I haven’t had to repair anything yet. Replacement parts are often available at IKEA, but with Brimnes, the soft-close components seem to be integrated, so it’s less flexible. Replacements would probably only be possible by getting new drawers.
