Hello everyone,
I am currently facing the challenge of installing an Ikea Platsa wardrobe in a bathroom that is not fully wet, but can get quite humid (for example, due to showering, open windows, etc.). My specific question is: Are there any restrictions or clear guidelines from Ikea regarding the use of the PLATSA system in damp rooms or areas with high humidity? In particular, I am interested in the material’s resistance to moisture, the durability of the fittings, and whether any special protective measures should be taken to prevent mold, swelling, or other damage.
So far, I have not found any clearly stated information in the product descriptions or assembly instructions that directly address the issue of damp environments.
Does anyone have experience or reliable information on this topic? Thank you in advance!

- No direct contact with water
- Regular ventilation
- Seal or paint edges
Otherwise, swelling and consequential damage are inevitable.

First of all, thank you all for the helpful and varied contributions!
Regarding protective measures and use in damp areas, it is much clearer to me now what I need to pay attention to. I will actually apply an additional varnish to the furniture and carefully seal the edges. I will particularly make sure to allow the proper drying time after treatments.
Since the bathroom has ventilation and windows, the conditions are acceptable according to your comments, as long as I do not install the furniture right next to the shower.
Also, the idea that I do not have to buy original moisture-resistant furniture immediately makes sense to me in the long term, especially since I can easily adjust the PLATSA modules.
If anyone later has questions about types of sealants, I am happy to share what works for me.
Thanks again for the constructive discussion!

I’m actually going to paint the furniture again and carefully seal the edges.Well done, mopuix! 👏 You’ve really thought this through and are approaching the project thoughtfully.
When choosing your paint, it’s best to use waterproof acrylic paint or marine varnish, as these have proven effective in damp rooms. Make sure to take your time and apply several coats to the edges. It will turn out great!
I’m looking forward to your update and wish you the best of luck with your PLATSA bathroom furniture project.
