A few months ago, I bought a bed and dressers from the IKEA Hemnes series, which are all made of solid pine wood. Now I’m wondering if anyone has recommendations for the proper care of Hemnes wood, especially regarding surface treatment.
What products are suitable to preserve the natural wood grain while also creating a protective layer against scratches, moisture, or discoloration? Should special oils, waxes, or varnishes be used, and how often does this furniture require treatment?
I’m also interested in whether cleaning with traditional household remedies like vinegar or water mixed with soap is advisable or should rather be avoided.
I would greatly appreciate helpful, detailed tips or personal experiences, as I want to keep the wood looking nice and durable for as long as possible.

I think many people overestimate the need for oils and polishes.I see it a bit differently. Depending on the level of use, pine wood can dry out and become brittle.
Occasional care with a specialized wood oil not only improves appearance but also maintains the wood’s elasticity.
It is important to choose high-quality oils that penetrate deeply into the wood and create a protective yet breathable layer.
Immediately after treatment, the furniture is more prone to dust, so make sure to store it in a clean environment.

The surface is usually sealed with a clear varnish. To extend its lifespan, you can occasionally use a care oil specifically designed for varnished solid wood. Thanks, that makes it clearer for me. Does that mean I shouldn’t apply raw oil or wax directly on IKEA Hemnes furniture, but rather a care product specifically formulated for varnished surfaces?
There are so many products available that I’m unsure whether ordinary linseed oil might damage the clear varnish seal.
Does anyone have experience with products that maintain this sealed surface without dissolving it?
