Kinandrej7 Jan 2022 13:27Hello everyone,
I am currently looking into affordable lighting options for the Pax wardrobe that do not require any electrical wiring. The reason is that I do not have the possibility to connect the wardrobe directly to the mains power in my apartment, and I would also prefer to avoid any fixed cable installations.
I am therefore searching for a solution that is inexpensive, provides sufficient light, is as easy to install as possible, and, of course, works independently of a power outlet. Are there such lighting options that operate, for example, on batteries or with sensors and still provide good illumination?
I would appreciate any tips, experiences, or possible solutions that do not involve a significant investment. Thanks in advance!

Hello,
Regarding affordable lighting options for the Pax wardrobe without an electrical connection, there are indeed several choices you can consider. Important factors when selecting lighting include power source, light quality, installation effort, and flexibility.
- Battery-operated LED strips or bars are very popular. They are often combined with motion sensors, which saves battery life and is convenient if you only want light when needed.
- There are also simple, self-adhesive LED lights that run on AA or AAA batteries. These are usually inexpensive and versatile, although you generally need to replace the batteries more frequently.
- Alternatively, rechargeable LED lights that charge via USB are an option. For use inside the wardrobe, having a rechargeable time at home can be advantageous if you can charge the lights as needed.
It is also important to choose lights with a relatively high color temperature (around 4000–5000 Kelvin) so that colors inside the wardrobe are clearly visible. Cheap, overly warm-white LEDs can distort the appearance.
Question: How large is the Pax wardrobe, or roughly how much light do you need? This will influence the type of lighting and the number of LEDs that are appropriate.

Question: How big is the Pax wardrobe, and roughly how much light do you need?Good point, thanks! It’s a medium-sized Pax, about 150 cm (60 inches) wide and 200 cm (79 inches) high, with 3 doors. I mainly want the interior lighting to provide enough light to see clearly in the back corners—not just diffuse ambient lighting, but focused LED lighting would be ideal.
I’m considering installing several small LED strips or spots activated by motion sensors, but as mentioned, without running wiring. Battery-powered systems would suit me best.
Does anyone know of affordable kits or DIY recommendations that last long? Replaceable batteries would be great, or rechargeable solutions with USB charging.

battery-powered LED strips activated by a motion sensor. At first glance, that sounds very practical, but honestly, I find the idea of relying solely on battery power somewhat short-sighted. Batteries rarely turn out to be cost-effective when you consider everyday use, and the waste generated by constantly replacing batteries is also significant.
Are there no other smart solutions, such as LED strips with built-in rechargeable batteries that you can simply remove and occasionally charge at your desk or with a power bank? Or have you thought about using small, modern solar panels? Of course, inside a closet that’s tricky, but a small panel mounted discreetly on the outside of the closet connected to the light via a cable could work.
I recommend not always going for the cheapest product right away but instead focusing on durability and sustainability. This pays off especially well when it comes to lighting.
