I have been trying for the last five months to find a construction company from the Landshut area that also carries out renovations or refurbishments.

I’ll get straight to the point – without any success!

More than half a dozen companies I contacted did not respond at all. Only one scheduled an appointment after I called several times but ultimately did not show up.

1.) Why do companies encourage requests via email if they don’t respond?
2.) I understand that new builds bring in money faster,
3.) but why do they advertise renovation and refurbishment services on their websites if they have no interest in those projects?
4.) It’s not easy to keep the economy moving in Germany, let alone renovate a house.

Unfortunately, I have now started looking for a reliable company in a neighboring country.

This is not only the case with renovations...

...but also seems to be common with smaller jobs.

Last summer, we built a double garage and finished the roof by the end of October. Since October, I have been trying to find a plasterer for the garage. This turned out to be more difficult than I expected.

Unfortunately, nothing could be done before winter. Everyone’s job books were full. After that, we had some snow and an extended cold period. Still, I tried to commission the work. But nobody really wanted to take measurements and provide a quote during winter. Everyone referred me to spring...

In May, I finally had someone who submitted an acceptable offer. I then hired this company. Since that day, I haven’t heard anything from them. Several written inquiries → no response. Eventually, I spoke with the boss’s wife on the phone. She listened to everything and promised that her husband would get in touch. Of course, that never happened.

So, I canceled the contract in July and started over. The same thing happened again. The owner of a company from the neighboring town came on a Saturday in July to inspect and take measurements. Since then, no further contact...

On the other hand, there were discouraging offers that were 100% more expensive than the average. Apparently, they didn’t want the job.

In the meantime, however, I have agreed with a company, and the base plaster inside and outside is already done.

Have you tried calling first to ask if they currently have any capacity?
I think renovations are definitely worthwhile. It always depends on how the company has arranged things.
Are you looking for a complete renovation package from a single provider?

Hello!

The tradespeople are very busy, and there are hardly any young workers willing to undergo training. You can only take on a few additional jobs in case clients cancel. From my experience, tradespeople are not very keen on preparing quotes in the evening.

What work needs to be done at your place?

Yes, unfortunately I have had the same impression and have often heard the phrase “no interest” or “don’t feel like it.”

What a shame!
Everyone talks about keeping money within the region, but then this happens?

In my case, a new roof structure combined with an extension of a single-family house as well as a new garage were planned.

My daughter is planning a new build for 2016/17, and regional companies like these would already be ruled out.

Since young people now connect easily via the internet and ask around in clubs and among acquaintances about recommended companies when they want to build a new home, I certainly won’t recommend any of these companies that are so extremely unreliable.
If this kind of behavior becomes known, it will definitely not help business. That’s why I cannot understand this unreliability or “no interest” attitude.

There will probably be some difficult years ahead for the construction industry as well.

Well, when the books are full, at least that can be communicated. And if a company already has a website but doesn’t even respond to emails... it gives a bad impression nowadays. They should at least state on the website that they can only be reached by phone/....
