ᐅ Are perimeter insulation boards in the ground area typically glued or fixed with mechanical fasteners (such as anchors or plugs)?

We have an extension. The construction company installed long perimeter insulation boards (approximately 2700 by 1000 mm (106 by 39 inches)) vertically on the exterior basement wall below ground level and fastened them with just one anchor at the top. In some places, they foam-sealed the joints.
Is this common practice? The remaining exterior basement walls (existing building) still need insulation. For these, smaller boards with a stepped tongue-and-groove profile would likely be considered. These boards are usually installed horizontally. Should these boards (for example, Perimeter B-3000 EPS 035 PW with dimensions 1250 by 625 mm (49 by 25 inches)) be glued? The wall will receive a new bituminous coating beforehand.

Installing the boards vertically seems illogical to me, and bonding is a non-invasive joining method, although the surface layer closest to the ground is usually secured with two methods for safety reasons. Nothing is as perfectly flat as in textbooks; longer boards are simply stiffer, which makes their adhesion to the surface less favorable. I would clearly prefer horizontal installation, with a shiplap joint and glued. But as always, my mantra applies here as well: don’t let the installers use the method they have the least experience with, even if it might be "objectively" better. The workmanship affects the overall product quality more than the materials themselves or the installation methods.

Don’t forget that I have a theoretical profession and two left hands before you follow my instructions exactly. That aside, yes, I would set the panels in a full-surface adhesive bed, leave the stepped joints dry, and later tape around the edges over the joints.
