Hello everyone, I recently bought an IKEA Brimnes wardrobe and now I’m wondering how easy or difficult it is to disassemble this piece of furniture. Specifically, I’m interested if anyone has practical experience taking down the BRIMNES wardrobe after some time, for example when moving or remodeling. Are there any common challenges to watch out for? Are special tools required, or can the wardrobe be taken apart using the usual Allen keys and screwdrivers? Any tips on the order of the steps would also be very helpful. Thanks in advance for your insights!
Basically, the BRIMNES cupboard is easy to disassemble. Simply loosen the screws with a hex key or screwdriver and carefully take the parts apart. It is important not to bend the screws and to follow the correct disassembly order—first remove the doors, then the back panel. No special tools are needed; standard Ikea assembly tools are sufficient.
From my experience, the BRIMNES wardrobe can be disassembled quite well if you keep a few points in mind. The wardrobe is made of particleboard and can be easily damaged during improper disassembly, especially at the edges and the back panel. The back panel is usually only attached with nails and should be removed carefully, as it is thin and brittle.
In terms of tools, an Allen key (hex key), which is often included in the delivery, is needed. A Phillips screwdriver is also helpful.
Tip: Screws from the doors and back panel should be kept in small containers to stay organized for reassembly later.
In general, it is advisable to disassemble the wardrobe on a soft surface to avoid scratches.

The back panel is usually only fixed with nails and should be removed carefullyThat’s exactly what I noticed during my last move – the back panel sounds very fragile. I grabbed a small rubber mallet to avoid damage and mostly used a flathead screwdriver to gently loosen the nails.
So, no need to panic during disassembly, just stay relaxed. As long as you don’t force the material, everything goes smoothly, and you can take the wardrobes apart and put them back together multiple times. Good luck!
