Hello,
perhaps someone has installed something like this at home. We have a Bora ducted range hood and want a wall box that is as airtight as possible. Would it be possible to install a Weibel? It is electronically controlled. The question is how to connect the wall box and the range hood without interfering with the hood’s electronics and thus voiding the warranty. Is that possible?

Best regards,
Andi

Ask Weibel to send you the installation instructions; then everything will be clear. Otherwise, you can find a lot of information on Weibel’s website.

The Weibel box is basically just a flap mounted on the exterior wall.
You need to run a pipe through the wall yourself, plus a very small conduit for the power cable to the flap.
The Weibel flap covers a specific maximum pipe diameter. If the pipe is smaller, it doesn’t matter—the flap is simply mounted over the end of the pipe. The flap doesn’t care how thick the pipe is (unless it’s too large, but standard sizes are covered).

The mentioned power cable is routed inside and connected to an “intermediate plug.” Your exhaust hood is plugged into this “intermediate plug,” which normally goes into the wall socket.
The intermediate plug detects when the connected device (your plugged-in exhaust hood) consumes power. When it detects power usage, it sends a signal to the flap to open. If the hood stops using power (because you turn it off), it sends a signal for the flap to close again.

It’s extremely simple and independent of most building types.
To make the flap truly 100% windproof on the outside, it is sealed all around with rubber gaskets and possibly some type of joint sealant.

It doesn’t seem very thermally insulating to me, but the alternatives would be either products with pressure flaps, which are never fully windproof, or boxes with high-tech mechanisms that also don’t focus much on thermal insulation.

I will check directly with the manufacturer again about how thermal tightness is ensured when the flap is closed.
