Hello everyone,

We are still quite early in our new build project for a single-family home in the outskirts of Nuremberg.
The current status is as follows:
- Plot of land available
- Size: 730 m² (7852 sq ft)
- 7.5 m (25 ft) wide access to the plot on the south side (see attachment)
- The plot includes fruit trees, a well, a garage, and a garden shed. These can be reused but are not mandatory.
- Soil survey commissioned

Our wishes for the project are:
- Living area: 160 m² to 170 m² (1722 to 1830 sq ft)
- Ground floor: office, pantry, WC with shower, and open kitchen, living, and dining area
- Upper floor: laundry room, bathroom, walk-in closet, bedroom, two children’s rooms
- No basement
- Construction method: timber frame prefabricated construction – however, other construction methods are not ruled out categorically
- Pool desired near the well

In our opinion, our requirements for the house are not really unusual. Only the front door probably needs to be on the west side (or possibly the south side) because of the access to the plot.
We have more uncertainties regarding the exterior area, which we definitely want to plan roughly together with the house. Will the tree roots cause problems, and which trees should be removed? How can the driveway with garage and the path to the front door be planned?

Therefore, we are now wondering which contact person we should work with next:
- Landscape architect plans the outdoor area, house will be a "standard model" from a prefab house provider
- Landscape architect and architect plan both outdoor area and house
- Architect plans both outdoor area and house

Could you help us with this question?

We would also appreciate contacts for good (landscape) architects in our area :-).

Many thanks in advance for the already very helpful answers!
@11ant: We would like to have the outdoor area considered early on and start working on it as soon as possible after the house is built.
@K1300S: Good to know! The house location and the outdoor area planning seem like a chicken-and-egg problem...
If an architect can also create the rough plan for the outdoor areas, that might be the next sensible step.

@hanghaus2000:
There is a development plan from the 1970s. Regarding the outdoor area, there are only restrictions on fences. Small garages are allowed at the property boundary.

I have also uploaded an excerpt from the "plan sheet of the development plan." It still shows the buildings that were previously on the property.

Additionally, I created a satellite view with labels for the relevant objects and the outline of the outer edges.

Basically, these are some of the topics on our minds:
- Demolish the garage and instead build a garage plus carport next to the house with a "long" driveway (=> garden space will be "used up," but there will be more space for the property entrance area)
- How can the property entrance area be designed with a gate and a garden gate? (Possibly set back a bit into the property)
- What could the path to the front door look like?
- Can the roots from the trees damage the paths, garage, or house, and how should this be taken into account during planning?
- Which trees should be removed?

For these questions, we think we simply need professional support, which we hope to find from an architect. If anyone knows a good architect in Nuremberg and the surrounding area, please feel free to contact me :-).

And I thought this would be about a cool landscaping design. But this is just basic, run-of-the-mill stuff. Every architect does that anyway just to make their plans look nicer.

The building envelope leaves little room for flexibility. I would keep the trees as they are. This is really a side task for the architect.

I don’t see anything obstructive within the building envelope. I would also leave the trees standing, and that really isn’t an additional task for a specialist planner. In my opinion, only someone completely irrational would tear down the garage. By the way, this is the first time I’ve seen a building envelope planned with consideration for the utility connections. I would consider permitting the utility hookups to be routed into the probable outbuilding at the rear end of the garage, so that ideally switching from temporary construction electricity and water to regular service would simply be a matter of changing the tariff.

Thanks again for the responses! We were probably influenced by the architectural services offered by prefab house companies, which practically do not include any exterior planning. Since we now want to have an independent architect design everything anyway, that works out fine!

The idea regarding the utility connections is a good one! We will take that into consideration!

Now we’ll start looking for a good architect…

I know, that’s exactly why. The garage will also serve as temporary accommodation on the construction site and as a small parts storage area.

My profile also includes contact information if you need assistance. Architects are discussed only rarely here. Sometimes I think they are mentioned in the section about experiences with homebuilding companies.
