Hello everyone,

I found countless threads about electrical installations (electricity, inspection, installation, own work, etc.) using the search function, but nothing suitable.

My concern: Our electrical installations are coming up soon.
I plan to have the utility connection (and possibly up to the distribution boards) done by a licensed electrician.
However, since my brother-in-law is a trained electrician (and very passionate about electricity) and has been handling everything electrical at his company for years (building small systems himself including controls, safety inspections according to BGV standards, electrical installations, etc.), he offered to do the wiring.
Of course, he cannot perform the official inspection.

So my question is: Does the electrical work have to be officially inspected by a licensed electrician afterward? And what has been your experience with a licensed electrician inspecting electrical work that they did not install themselves?

I am also a qualified electrician and handle the electrical installation, including the meter cabinet, myself. However, I still need a licensed master electrician’s company to take care of the registration and related paperwork. In my case, I obtain the electrical materials from the master electrician, and in return, he handles the registration. He would also do the registration for a fee or hourly rate. The basic materials are not much more expensive than buying online, and they are delivered to the construction site by the wholesaler. I still ordered quite a bit of material myself from the internet. I should also mention that my master electrician only does this part-time and no longer wires entire houses.

In the end, you will need someone to inspect the system and handle the registration. I would simply recommend contacting electrical contractors to see to what extent they are willing to take on similar tasks.

If your brother-in-law is handling everything… doesn’t he know someone he trusts for reliability who can quickly inspect the installation at the end with minimal time investment?

It would be surprising if that’s not the case. Unfortunately, it can’t be done completely without that.

Hello everyone, and thank you for the quick responses.
I will probably just talk directly to the certified electrician then^^.
In his company, there are two certified electricians who don’t like to do this kind of work (years ago they did it once, and since then, everyone in the company comes to them with the same request (external installation -> inspection/approval by one of them). Because of this, they have agreed not to do it anymore. But the possibility probably still exists if you ask nicely.

My neighbor had trouble finding someone who would take it for a reasonable price!

An electrician wanted to do only a visual inspection and then filed the application for 200 euros. The other one wanted a complete measurement report (he would have done it for 800 euros or you could do it yourself) and then would have filed the application.

We didn’t have any problems finding someone. I believe it should be manageable. It has always worked out within our circle of acquaintances.
