Hello,
we are currently building a house and have reached the topic of telephone, internet, and TV.
In our current rental apartment, we have a 1GB cable connection from Vodafone, with which we are overall very satisfied.
However, I feel like I would be locked into one provider forever if we now only install the cable connection.

Is it possible to have a cable connection installed, for example through Vodafone, and simultaneously have a DSL connection through Telekom? Or would that be a waste of money?

We could then watch TV via cable or via the satellite dish, right?

Thank you very much for your help and best regards,
Andreas

Is satellite TV plus Telekom DSL not an option? That way, at least your TV would be independent.

Just because cable internet works well in your current apartment doesn’t mean it will work well in your new house. This can vary greatly depending on the location.

Hello,

thanks for the quick reply.
The reason I prefer to stick with cable for the internet connection is the price-performance ratio.

For a cable internet connection with significantly faster download speeds, I pay less per month than I would for a DSL plan.

Example:
1. Cable/Vodafone – 1,000 Mbps – 40€/month
2. DSL/Telekom – 100 Mbps – 45€/month

As you mentioned, the quality can only really be assessed after moving in, so my idea was to have both installed. That way, I could still switch between the technologies or providers.

Or am I missing something here?

Best regards,

Our situation is similar. Cable 1000 or DSL 250 would be possible in the new house. Monthly costs are roughly the same, but cable is faster.
So far, we also have cable, but I’m quite dissatisfied with it. There are occasional small interruptions. Last year, we even had a complete outage for 2 full days and another one for 1 full day.
Initially, I wanted to have both installed in the new house. Telecommunications installation costs about 800€; cable costs 1700€. Since DSL is generally considered more reliable and fiber optic is the future anyway, we decided to skip cable and only have DSL installed. Paying 1700€ for a backup that will basically be outdated in a few years isn’t worth it to me. DSL 250 is sufficient and completely fine for now.
TV will only come via the internet. TV is not that important to us. Internet is more important in the home office era and simply delivers TV as well.

From an economic standpoint, I would choose the option that is more affordable. In the long term, fiber optic cable will need to be installed anyway. Maybe check whether and how it is available in your area.

In our new building, we won’t have cable or DSL; currently, we have DSL and fiber optic, with the DSL mainly used just for the existing landline number.

Have everything installed. This way, you can switch anytime.
We use the cable connection only for internet.
TV is streamed via IPTV (Zattoo).
