For everyone still considering whether to install some form of cooling, I would say YES!
Today it’s almost 40°C (104°F) outside. Phew! Luckily, back then we opted for "cooling yes or no?" and chose yes.

Our cooling runs very energy-efficiently through our ground source heat pump in the floor (the cold is basically just pumped upwards). We have a comfortable 22.1°C (72°F) in the rooms.

Honestly, this climate change is really annoying me. If anyone has a plot of land to sell cheaply at the North Cape, please get in touch.

1. I never said that nobody needs air conditioning.
2. I wrote that it only works as long as it cools down at night, and it still does here.
3. I shade the windows that get sunlight, which I have never denied.

I was only talking about our house, and that’s how it is there.

You generalize and lump everything together.

Here, it has been and continues to get colder than 20°C (68°F) at night, sometimes more, sometimes less. Always enough to ventilate well.

Due to shading, today we are again at about 24°C (75°F) downstairs, 25°C (77°F) upstairs.

Currently, it’s 29 degrees Celsius (84 degrees Fahrenheit)... inside the office! You start sweating just by sitting around...

That is quite a bit above 21 or 22°C (70 or 72°F). And of course you can ventilate at night IF it is actually cooler then. But even at night, the temperature tends to rise steadily during the day. At the time when you want it to be cool (in the evening), you have the highest temperatures inside the house. Nighttime cooling usually only happens in the second half of the night. Last night, our lowest temperature was 20°C (68°F) … BUT at 11 p.m. it was still 26°C (79°F) and at 1 a.m. still 23°C (73°F). The low was shortly before sunrise around 5 a.m. at 20°C (68°F).

See the picture. Today’s temperature in my office with the air conditioning turned off. I only occasionally use the office phone. The windows face west and north. Yesterday, with the air conditioning on, it was 23°C (73°F). Today, with the air conditioning off, the current temperature is 24.56°C (76.2°F) and rising. You can see this quite clearly in the picture. Outside temperature is 38°C (100.4°F). Triple-glazed windows. Walls made of Ytong, 36.5 W/m²K.

In the office, the heating calculator seems to be running.

I’m usually awake around 4 a.m., and at that time it’s cool, but from 7 a.m. onwards, it’s different. The windows need to be closed and the ventilation turned off then.
